A new leak from an insider has revealed some more details about the PS6 handheld codenamed “Canis,” including its specs, price targets, and release window.

We’re edging closer to the next generation of consoles, and all eyes are starting to peek at what’s coming after PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. One of the loudest rumors right now is Sony building a true handheld for the next generation, not a streaming device, but a device that runs games natively.

Until recently, we only had rough hints. Now, a new report from insider and content creator Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) goes much deeper, sharing what he says are up-to-date details from internal documentation: architecture, clocks, memory bus, performance targets, and even high-level price thinking.

In this article, we’ll talk about everything that was revealed about the PS6 handheld in this latest round of leaked information.

What Is the PS6 Handheld “Canis”?

According to MLID, “Canis” is an AMD-powered, native-play handheld that can dock via USB-C video out for higher performance, very much a “play on the go, plug into a TV at home” approach. In docked mode, the GPU targets higher clocks; in handheld mode, it scales down for battery life, which is pretty standard for a handheld console.

In terms of a quick overview of the leaked specs for the PS6 handheld, the chip is a monolithic APU made on TSMC 3 nm, roughly ~135 mm, with a 4+2 CPU layout: four Zen 6c cores for games and two low-power Zen 6 cores for the OS/background tasks. MLID says pushing the OS to those LP cores frees about 20% CPU headroom for games. Memory is LPDDR5X on a 192-bit controller, with support for up to 48 GB; MLID expects 24 to 36 GB as realistic launch configurations.

On the graphics side, the PS6 handheld includes an APU with 16 RDNA 5 compute units, which clocks around ~1.20 GHz in handheld mode and ~1.65 GHz in docked mode. MLID’s math puts docked raster around 0.55–0.75× a PS5, with ray tracing landing ~1.3–2.6× PS5 thanks to architecture gains; he adds that FSR 4 and Canis-specific patches could let many titles match PS5-class results in practice. Backward compatibility for the PS6 handheld is said to include PS5 and PS4. (no mention of PS3)

PS6 Handheld Full Leaked Specs

In the latest video, MLID has revealed what he thinks are the full specs for the PS6 handheld. He says the following points appear in the docs he’s seen; some items are his reasoned expectations, and we’ve flagged those where noted.

You can check out the full leaked specs for the PS6 handheld console below:

  • Process & die: Monolithic ~135 mm APU on TSMC N3 (3 nm).
  • CPU: 4x Zen 6c (game cores) + 2× low-power Zen 6 (OS cores), single CCX, 4 MB L3 on the Zen 6c CCX. OS on LP cores frees ~20% CPU for games.
  • GPU: RDNA 5 iGPUs, 16 CUs; target clocks ~1.20 GHz (handheld) / ~1.65 GHz (docked). Docking is explicitly mentioned in the docs.
  • Memory: LPDDR5X-8533, 192-bit bus, support for up to 48 GB; MLID expects 24–36 GB likely at launch.
  • Performance targets (docked): ~0.55–0.75x PS5 raster; ~1.3–2.6x PS5 RT; MLID believes FSR 4 + patches could deliver near-PS5 results in many titles.
  • I/O & features: USB-C video-out, microSD slot, touchscreen, dual mics, haptics. (MLID also mentions an M.2 slot in his slide.)
  • Backward Compatibility: PS5 and PS4 support noted, no PS3 mention.

PS6 Handheld Targeted Price

These are MLID’s BOM-based price opinions, not leaked retail numbers from Sony. He shared a cost table comparing a PS6 “Orion” home console, a budget “PS6S” console that reuses the Canis APU, and the PS6 handheld. The ranges below reflect his “aggressive” vs. “greedy” margin scenarios and his “likely” band.

You can check out the speculated prices for the PlayStation 6, PlayStation 6S, and PlayStation 6 handheld consoles below.

  • PS6 Handheld (“Canis”)
    • Likely range: $399 to $499
    • Aggressive scenario: $349
    • Greedy scenario: $549
  • “PS6S” Canis-based Console (budget model)
    • Likely range: $299 to $399
    • Aggressive scenario: $249
    • Greedy scenario: $399
  • PS6 “Orion” Home Console
    • Likely range: $549 to $699
    • Aggressive scenario: $549
    • Greedy scenario: $799

Again, those are estimates from the creator based on his cost modeling, not confirmed or leaked prices.

PS6 Handheld Release Window

MLID says documents indicate that manufacturing for the PS6 handheld is planned for mid-2027 with a likely Fall 2027 release. That lines up with the idea of the handheld launching alongside (or shortly after) PS6 hardware, though he also stresses plans can change.

As with everything in this report, treat it as unconfirmed and with a grain of salt, until Sony makes it official.

On the PC handheld side, Steam Deck 2 is widely rumored for 2028 based on a known AMD leaker’s recent comments, which would put it a bit later than Canis if Sony hits a 2027 window. Valve has also said it’s waiting for a true generational leap before making a real successor, which fits that timing.
