Nintendo has confirmed why there will be no early reviews for the Switch 2 before launch.

Nintendo’s Switch 2 is just about to hit store shelves, and there’s a lot of excitement building up for its big launch on June 5. With a new design, updated hardware, and promises of better performance, plenty of people have been counting down the days and looking forward to hands-on impressions from press and YouTubers before deciding if they should buy it right away.

But here’s the thing: this time, there aren’t any reviews from the press outlets or popular creators ahead of launch. Normally, around this stage, we’d see early reviews all over the internet breaking down the console’s pros and cons, but this week has been unusually quiet.

Many fans have noticed, and there have been a lot of questions about why nobody has been able to share their thoughts on the Switch 2 yet.

Nintendo Explains Why There Are No Switch 2 Reviews Yet

Thanks to a new feature from VGC, we finally have some answers. Nintendo has confirmed that there won’t be any Switch 2 reviews before release, and it has a very specific reason for holding them back. The company says that “important features and updates” for the system will only be available with a required system update launching on release day, June 5.

This means anyone who managed to get their hands on the console early, or even reviewers, wouldn’t be able to try out until that update is live. It’s clear that Nintendo wants everyone, including reviewers and players, to experience the system in its final state, after the update.

As a result, you won’t see any “real” reviews until after launch, once the update rolls out and reviewers can actually use the full set of features. So, if you were hoping for a deep look at performance or battery life before buying, you’ll have to wait just a little longer.

Leaks have also given fans an early look at the Switch 2’s setup process and menu system, thanks to a full walkthrough video that popped up online last week.
