Nintendo is reportedly rushing to announce the Switch 2 in January 2025 after a flood of leaks.
Over the past few weeks, the internet has been buzzing with leaks, rumors, and speculation about Nintendo’s highly anticipated successor to the Switch. From leaked design images to accessory manufacturers sharing designs that hint at the console’s dimensions, fans have been piecing together what to expect.
It feels like the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement is right around the corner, doesn’t it? And now, there’s even talk that Nintendo might be speeding up its timeline to announce the Switch 2—possibly as early as January 2025.
This wave of leaks isn’t just a trickle anymore; it’s a flood. First, we saw images of a prototype shell in late September, giving us a glimpse of what the new console could look like. Then, accessory makers joined in, revealing designs that all but confirmed a larger Switch-like device with magnetic Joy-Con attachments and a new “C” button on the bottom right of the console.
With so much information slipping through the cracks, fans are understandably hyped—and it seems Nintendo might be feeling the pressure.
Analyst Suggests Early Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Due to Leaks
Amid the recent leaks, Serkan Toto, CEO of Japanese game industry consultancy Kantan Games, has weighed in with his thoughts. Speaking to Eurogamer, Toto highlighted that the sheer volume of leaks could push Nintendo to announce the Switch 2 “earlier than planned.”
Originally, Nintendo had until March 31, 2025, to reveal the console, but according to Toto, it is unlikely to wait that long.
“Nintendo will not have much time in January, so a potential announcement early in the month could make sense,” Toto explained. He added, “You can bet that Nintendo is aware of all the leaks and not happy about them, even if some of them will turn out to be made up.”
“It is actually getting so bad with those leaks that they might cause Nintendo to release information earlier than planned.”
Fans have speculated that a January announcement would set the stage perfectly for a release later in 2025. Adding fuel to the fire, a trusted Nintendo leaker has recently started a cryptic countdown on social media, leading many to believe that January 8, 2025, could be the big day.
Reports also suggest that the Switch 2’s hardware will be a significant step up, capable of handling modern AAA titles.
This has started fan debates about whether it will be powerful enough to run upcoming blockbusters like GTA 6 or The Witcher 4. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but the leaks and rumors paint an exciting picture of what’s to come.
