A new rumor suggests Nintendo Switch 2 could get paid and free themes through a future update.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is already one of the most talked-about consoles this year. Set to “release” on June 5, 2025, the excitement around Nintendo’s next-gen device has been nonstop. Pre-orders opened recently and, unsurprisingly, stock disappeared within minutes, leaving plenty of fans scrambling to secure a unit.

From upgraded hardware to new exclusive games, Switch 2 has had no shortage of headlines, and now, it looks like there’s another interesting feature possibly on the way: themes.

Will Nintendo Switch 2 Finally Get Themes?

According to a new rumor, the Switch 2 could finally introduce themes that let players customize their home screens. The information comes from the X account Switch2Stock, a page that normally shares updates about console availability and restocks.

In a new post, they shared early details about how themes might be handled on the upcoming console. The post says that themes will become available starting with firmware version 2.0, although it’s possible they could be delayed to 2.1 or 2.2.

Players will reportedly be able to unlock some themes by using Platinum Points and completing quests. These unlockable themes might be exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Other themes, though, will be sold separately through the Nintendo eShop, and buying them wouldn’t require an NSO subscription.

“Themes will be available from firmware version 2.0 onwards (possibly 2.1 or 2.2),” the X post reads. “They will be unlocked through platinum points and quests (NSO exclusivity), and some will require payment via the eShop (No NSO required).”

It’s worth keeping in mind that no source was given for this information, so it’s best to take it with a grain of salt until Nintendo officially says something. This adds to a lot of recent Switch 2 updates. In other news, Nintendo has released a new Switch 2 magazine in Japan.
