Rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2’s power continue to circulate, with recent reports challenging the claim that it matches the PS4 Pro.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the talk of the town lately, with rumors, leaks, and reports flooding in about what to expect from the highly anticipated console. From hardware improvements to design changes, it seems everyone has something to say.

Recent leaks have hinted at some exciting upgrades, with a magnetic Joy-Cons attachment system, a new dock design, and much more. But as with anything unconfirmed, it’s not all set in stone.

One of the most discussed rumors came from insiders suggesting that the Switch 2 could pack the same punch as Sony’s PS4 Pro, a console known for its impressive performance capabilities. The idea of Nintendo entering this level of competition started online chatter and excitement, but a new report seems to cast doubt on these claims.

Nintendo Switch 2 May not be as Powerful as PS4 Pro

A new rumor has surfaced, suggesting the Switch 2 may not be as powerful as some initially hoped. This comes from a post on X (Twitter) by Tom Warren of The Verge. In his post, Warren humorously dismissed the idea of PS4 Pro-level performance.

Warren said: “There are so many rumors floating around about the Switch 2, but the funniest one is about it being as powerful as a PS4 Pro [with an upside-down face emoji].”

While this doesn’t provide any concrete evidence about the console’s actual specifications, it does suggest that some of the more optimistic projections might need to be tempered. As always, when it comes to leaks and rumors, it’s important to approach them with caution until we get official confirmation.

Nintendo itself has confirmed that the Switch’s successor will be revealed before March 31, 2025, leaving just a three-month window. On top of that, other rumors have hinted at a dedicated reveal event in mid-January 2025.

In other related news, reports also suggest that the Switch 2 will be “very capable,” with hardware robust enough to run modern AAA games effectively. Earlier today, there was yet another leak for Switch 2 that revealed our first alleged look at the console’s motherboard, with an Nvidia chipset.

Even its iconic Joy-Con controllers might receive upgrades, with patents hinting at magnetic attachments and a sturdier kickstand. With all these features potentially in the mix, the Switch 2 could represent a significant leap over its predecessor, even if it doesn’t fully match the power of a PS4 Pro.
