Path of Exile 2 Early Access has kicked off, but many players are facing the “Your Account Does Not Have Access” error. Here’s what it means and how to fix it.
Path of Exile 2 Early Access has officially launched, with over a million live viewers tuning in on Twitch as of right now. Grinding Gear Games’ ambitious sequel to its popular action RPG has fans excited about its fresh mechanics and visuals.
However, with this level of hype, it’s no surprise that the launch hasn’t been entirely smooth. Players jumping into the game have reported various issues, one of the most common being the dreaded “Your Account Does Not Have Access” error.
Let’s break it all down, figure out what’s causing this error, and more importantly, walk you through the steps to get back into the game.
What Causes the “Your Account Does Not Have Access” Error in Path of Exile 2?
This error usually happens if your account isn’t set up for Early Access. To play Path of Exile 2 right now, you need either a Founder’s Pack or eligibility from supporting the original Path of Exile. If you don’t have either, you’ll need to wait for the full free-to-play release later.
But that’s not the whole story. On launch day, some players who should have Early Access have still seen this error. Grinding Gear Games explained that a server issue caused overlapping character IDs, which led them to take the servers offline shortly after launch to fix it.
“The problem we ran into was due to adding more database shards in the last minute to try to support the massive player numbers. Unfortunately, there was an issue which caused multiple characters to have the same character ID. Thankfully the problem has now been found and is being fixed at this very moment,” the developer said in a post on X (Twitter).
If you’re seeing this error despite having access, it’s likely because the servers are still undergoing maintenance.
How to Fix the “Your Account Does Not Have Access” Error in Path of Exile 2?
If you’re getting this error and can’t access Path of Exile 2, here are the steps you can take to fix it:
1. Verify Your Account Has Early Access
First, make sure you’ve purchased the Founder’s Pack or qualified for Early Access through your previous Path of Exile support. If you haven’t, you’ll need to buy a Founder’s Pack via the official website (once it’s back online).
2. Double-Check Your Login Details
Make sure you’re logging into the correct Path of Exile account. If you’ve redeemed a Founder’s Pack code, ensure it’s tied to the same account you’re using to log in. Using a different account might result in this error.
3. Link Your Steam Account to Your Path of Exile Account
For players who purchased the game on Steam, make sure your Steam account is linked to your Path of Exile account. You can usually do this via the official Path of Exile website. However, the site is experiencing heavy traffic, so you may need to wait until maintenance is completed before linking accounts.
4. Wait for Server Maintenance to Conclude
If you’re certain you have Early Access and your accounts are properly linked, the issue might not be on your end. Servers are experiencing issues due to the overwhelming player load. Keep an eye on official updates from Grinding Gear Games for when servers are stable again.
5. Redeem Codes on the Correct Platform
If you’ve received a code for Early Access, make sure to redeem it on the platform it was intended for. For example, a code purchased via the Path of Exile website should be redeemed there, not on a third-party platform like Steam.
GGG has already confirmed that the game has over 1 million early access redemptions and at the time of writing, there are over 400,000 players currently playing the game. This means that there are a ton of players trying to log in which is causing server issues.
