Bungie has revealed Destiny 2 Distortions, a new Monument of Triumph Patrol activity with tougher enemies, hourly destination changes, hidden rewards, and better loot.
Destiny 2’s final Monument of Triumph update is bringing several big changes to the game, and one of the most interesting ones is aimed directly at all the different planets in the game. Bungie is trying to give players a real reason to return to older destinations, not just for a quick bounty or Public Event, but for better rewards and tougher world activity.
The update will refresh pre-Edge of Fate destinations with new loot, tiered weapon drops, updated perk pools, and destination-themed bonuses. Public Events are also becoming more important again, with normal completions dropping Tier 3 rewards and Heroic completions dropping Tier 4 rewards, with a chance for drops to upgrade even higher.

Today, Bungie released the first of two Dev Insights blog posts for Monument of Triumph and shared a lot of new details about what is coming. One of the biggest reveals is a new Patrol feature called Distortions, which will appear across select destinations and change how those areas feel and reward players.
In this article, we’ll go over how Destiny 2 Distortions work, what changes during these events, what kind of loot players can expect, and why this could make Patrol zones more useful again.
How Destiny 2 Distortions Activity Works in Monument Of Triumph
Distortions are Bungie’s new way of making Patrol zones feel more active. According to Bungie, “Every hour, a different destination becomes the focus of Distortions. The sky tears open, reality distorts, and corruption spreads.” During this time, enemies on that destination become stronger, more aggressive, and more dangerous.
Bungie says Distortions are being added to seven destinations. From the teaser images, we know four of these seven destinations: Cosmodrome, the Moon, Nessus, and Savathun’s Throne World.
The goal is not to turn Patrol into a high-pressure activity, but to make it more rewarding and give players fresh reasons to explore public spaces again. You will still be able to roam around, join Public Events, and run into other Guardians, but the area will have more danger and better loot during a Distortion.

The main loop: a destination becomes distorted for a limited time, players head there, take part in Public Events and other public activities, fight tougher enemies, and unlock upgraded rewards. Bungie also says players may find “familiar challenges in new places” and “strange signals leading to hidden rewards,” which suggests there will be more than just harder enemies.
Destiny 2 Distortions Activity Loot
Loot is a major part of the system. Public Events will already reward Tier 3 gear, while Heroic Public Events reward Tier 4 gear. During a Distortion, those rewards are upgraded by one tier to match the added challenge. Bungie also says Distortions will have a new weapon set tied to these events.
Players will be able to spot active Distortions by looking for a red glow and checking the timer that shows when a new planet will be targeted.
