A new Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake leak shows almost ten minutes of internal presentation, with early gameplay, Farah’s role, and a modern combat system.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has had a rough road so far. Announced back in 2020, then delayed again and again, the project was moved to Ubisoft Montreal and rebuilt from the ground up after heavy criticism of its first showing. Ubisoft now has it penciled in for a release before March 31, 2026, with reports suggesting an early 2026 launch window.

While fans are still waiting for a proper public re-reveal, it looks like we now have our first real look at very early gameplay for this new version. A leaked internal presentation, recorded in Q1 2024, has surfaced online and gives a clearer idea of how Ubisoft is reimagining Sands of Time.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake footage appears online

Earlier today, a nearly ten-minute video was uploaded to YouTube by a user named Violet_Leman. The footage shows what looks like an internal Ubisoft presentation deck from early 2024, complete with mocap clips, alpha gameplay shots, concept art, and several slides explaining the story and design direction.

It’s clearly not a marketing piece. This feels like something meant for internal teams or leadership, which makes the leak a pretty rare look at where the project was a year and a half ago.

One of the standout pieces is a character slide for Princess Farah. In this version she is described as 19, cold-hearted, graceful, strong willed, the eldest child of the Maharajah and an agile, trained archer. The Vizier is listed as her former tutor, which helps set up their shared history. Her personality is framed as honest and driven, someone who has spent most of her life preparing to become Queen and prove she is ready for that role.

Her story arc focuses on how her time with the Prince changes her. She starts out strict and duty-focused, with a “think twice, cut once” attitude. Over the course of their journey together, she slowly lets her guard down, learns to trust him, and starts to accept that life is not only about responsibility. The presentation also makes one thing very clear: Farah is not a playable character, but she is still central to both the story and gameplay.

From a gameplay point of view, the leak backs up Ubisoft’s talk of a full overhaul. The classic time powers are back, including rewind, slow time, stop time, and a stronger power that freezes enemies so you can rush in with quick attacks. Puzzles lean harder into using time, physics and new elements, and the slides stress that many challenges are meant to be solved as a duo.

Farah can interact with the world in her own ways, using her bow to trigger mechanisms or help clear paths, so you are meant to think about how both characters can work together.

Platforming is still the core of the experience. The deck mentions higher fidelity character control, the ability to adjust yourself while in the air, and a focus on tricky layouts with traps and collapsing pieces of the environment. There are also “cooperative acrobatic moves” where the Prince and Farah help each other across gaps or climb through spaces, plus mention of the world being rebuilt with two new locations added.

Combat is another big focus. According to the slides, it has been modernized with new advanced acrobatic moves and more options tied to time powers. Enemies and bosses have been reworked, with new ways to finish fights. Farah no longer feels like someone you constantly have to protect. Instead, she acts as a real combat partner, fighting on her own with her bow and joining in on cooperative attacks. The presentation flat out says you no longer need to keep her safe in the same way as the original.

You can check out some of the details from the slides shown in the video below, keeping in mind that all of this comes from early internal material and could still change in the final release.

Gameplay Details

“In this new game, the time powers make a return. Rewind, slow time, stop time or even the mighty power of unleashing time (freezing your enemies while delivering rapid strikes). Use these powers to your advantage on your journey.

Moreover, embrace the iconic puzzle elements from the franchise. Play with time powers, physics, and new elements to broaden the possibilities in puzzles. Solve puzzles together as a duo: coordinate with Farah’s unique ways for interacting with the environment using her bow.

Platforming is central to the experience and your ability to move with grace and fluidity will be crucial for success in these complex and perilous environments:

  • High fidelity character control allowing you to keep control while in the air
  • Use a diverse range of moves, be agile to evade traps and collapsing elements
  • Stick together with Farah, help each other in progressing through the levels (thanks to her own moving skills and cooperative acrobatic moves)
  • Parkour a world rebuilt from the ground up, expanded with 2 new locations

“In this new game, combat has been modernized, blending familiar acrobatic attacks with new advanced acrobatic moves. Time powers have been enhanced to offer a wider array of options in battles.

“The combat system and enemies have been revamped (new ways to defeat enemies, improved boss fights). From now on, Farah is a true ally, capable of fighting independently with her bow and executing cooperative attacks. There is no longer a need to protect her.”

The video presentation also features concept examples from “12 enemies roster” with combatant names like “Servant,” “Shield Guard,” and “Blacksmith,” as well as weapon and character skins. Check out some of the screenshots from the video below.

It’s also worth pointing out that this presentation deck may come from a phase of the project that no longer reflects the current version of the game, before Ubisoft Montreal took over the development and restarted the project.
