Could the Dark Knight be returning? Rumor has it that Rocksteady is working on a new Batman game, with Sony potentially looking to secure exclusivity.
It’s been over nine years since Batman took his last flight in Rocksteady’s iconic Batman: Arkham series. The studio set a new standard for superhero games with Batman: Arkham Asylum back in 2009, delivering a unique blend of immersive storytelling, satisfying combat, and a dark, atmospheric Gotham City.
Arkham City expanded that vision, and Arkham Knight polished it to near-perfection, with players getting to explore the streets of Gotham in the Batmobile and face off against some of Batman’s most iconic villains, including The Joker, Scarecrow, The Penguin, Harley Quinn, The Riddler, and more.
Fans have been asking for more ever since, but Rocksteady shifted its focus to live service, with the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was met with mixed reviews at launch. However, a new rumor suggests that the studio might be returning to the world of the Dark Knight sooner than expected.
New Batman Arkham Game in Development at Rocksteady Studios?
According to Nick Baker (Shpeshal Nick) from Xbox Era, Rocksteady is working on a new Batman game. He dropped this news on X (formerly Twitter), responding to a post from The Game Awards that asked fans to name their dream developer for the next Batman game.
Baker hinted that Sony PlayStation might be looking to secure some form of exclusivity, possibly making it a PlayStation title. If true, this could mean the Dark Knight’s next adventure might be swinging exclusively onto Sony’s platform.
“Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it,” Baker said in a post on X. “I also think Sony are trying to money-hat it.”
The exact details are still hazy, but if true, this would be huge news for fans of the series who have been eagerly waiting for a mainline Batman game from Rocksteady. This development would be a surprising turn for the studio, considering its recent focus on the live service Suicide Squad project.
If Baker’s rumor is accurate, it could mean that Rocksteady has been secretly working on bringing Batman back to the forefront while balancing work on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Of course, as with all rumors, it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt until official confirmation arrives.
