EA has officially released the long-awaited Battlefield 2042 earlier this year. Despite all the hype and fans, the game had a bumpy launch with lots of bugs and glitches reported on all platforms. That said, there’s a new rumor that suggests EA and DICE are looking more into the hero shooter elements for the next Battlefield game.
According to the journalist Tom Henderson, who has been one of the first ones to leak Battlefield 2042 features, and even Call of Duty Vanguard, says that the next installment in the Battlefield franchise could focus on hero shooter mechanics, similar to what we have in Overwatch.
“The next Battlefield title is scoped as a hero shooter of sorts – It’s not a removal of specialists, but an enhancement of them,” Henderson said.
“Battlefield 2042 has always been intended to be a stepping stone to a “hero shooter” with a Battle Royale – It was just executed poorly.”
Next Battlefield Game Could Feature Hero Shooter Elements
If this new rumor is to be beleived, this means that the next Battlefield title could feature independant characters with their unique weapons, abilities, and play-style.
Earlier this week, EA announced that it is appointing the co-founder and CEO of Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall and Apex Legends developer), Vince Zampella, to oversee the Battlefield franchise moving forward.
“We intend to build a Battlefield universe, one with multiple projects that are interconnected with the player at the center,” Zampella explained in an interview with GameSpot.
“We plan to grow Battlefield and meet players where they play through various experiences and business models, including our upcoming Battlefield Mobile coming in 2022 from Alex Seropian and Industrial Toys.”
In regards to this new rumor, take it with a grain of salt as it could be a while until we hear more about the next Battlefield title since Battlefield 2042 just launch a month ago.
As for the Battlefield 2042, EA has just pushed the second major update on all platforms fixing plethora of bugs and glitches in the game earlier this week.
