Bungie has revealed big changes for weapon crafting in Destiny 2’s Episode Revenant. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s changing and why.

Bungie is gearing up for the release of Episode Revenant, arriving next week on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and with it comes some major changes to weapon crafting in Destiny 2. For those new to the game, weapon crafting allows players to craft specific weapons with their desired perks.

This feature, first introduced with The Witch Queen expansion, has been an integral part of the game for players wanting to chase those perfect god rolls, without having to rely solely on RNG.

However, it looks like Bungie has decided to make some changes, and they seem like a pretty interesting shake-up to how the loot grind will work moving forward.

Are Destiny 2 Episode Revenant’s Seasonal Weapons Craftable?

In the most recent This Week In Destiny blog post, Bungie announced, “Starting in [Episode] Revenant, the Seasonal weapons will not be craftable.” Instead, it wants to return to a focus on chasing weapons through activities, as seen in the earlier Into the Light update.

“As we looked back at Destiny 2: Into the Light, we believe that part of its success was the chase for Brave Arsenal weapons, with the attunement system helping to focus that pursuit,” Bungie said in the article. “We want to move more towards that experience, so starting in Revenant, the Seasonal weapons will not be craftable.”

“We believe the activities in Episodes work better when built around the gear chase, rewarding you with more than other activities and unlocking improvements like vendor focusing to help you get your desired rolls or even the option to get more perks in a given column.”

For those curious about enhanced perks, don’t worry—Bungie has confirmed that seasonal weapon perks can still be upgraded. According to Bungie, “Perks can still be enhanced using extra materials and there will be updates to unlock as you play the Episode to target specific weapons and even get extra perks per columns.”

Is Weapon Crafting Going Away in Destiny 2?

No, weapon crafting is not going away in Destiny 2. Bungie has confirmed that crafting will remain, but its long-term goal is to provide “a catch-up mechanism for rolls you weren’t able to nab from the original sources.”

“This may be because that source is no longer available or was gated by lockouts when it was,” said Bungie in a blog article last month. “But ultimately, we want crafting to support the weapon chase, and not replace it.”
