The source of these leaks is a Reddit user known as “NextHandheld.” Earlier this month, they claimed to have firsthand access to a final retail unit of the Nintendo Switch 2 and promised to share images of the console on December 25, 2024, as a Christmas surprise.

True to their word, the images have now been released, giving us a detailed look at Nintendo Switch 2.

Posted on X (Twitter) by “NextHandheld,” the image reveals what appears to be a final retail unit of the Nintendo Switch 2. Captured in a workshop-like environment, the console is shown featuring a new design with a U-shaped kickstand, magnetic Joy-Con connectors, and a visible Nintendo logo on the side.

The post caption reads: “This holiday season, I couldn’t resist sharing this gift with you all. Some might call it an early reveal… but I call it the best-kept secret of the year.”

However, fans are already debating regarding the authenticity of the image. While some fans argue that the level of detail makes it a convincing prototype, others speculate it could be an AI-generated image.

According to The Verge, the leaker allegedly possesses additional photos of the Switch 2, showcasing the updated dock and Joy-Con controllers. However, as of this writing, no further images have been shared. We will update this story if more images are shared by the user.

Adding to the discussion, a reputable Nintendo leaker, Pyoro, weighed in on the images, stating that they appear to be “heavily cropped” and suffer from poor image quality. Pyoro commented, “Pics are heavily cropped and the quality is pretty low, so I can’t really tell if they’re legit or not.”

“Especially the dock ones – if I hadn’t been told it was the dock, I wouldn’t have even recognized it. I definitely won’t consider those as evidence that they have the console..”

Update, December 25, 8:25 AM PT: The mods in the r/NintedoSwitch2 subreddit have now shared more images they received from NextHandheld earlier this month. The images show what appears to be our first look at the Nintendo Switch 2 logo and the new redesigned dock.

As with any leak or rumor, we suggest taking everything with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.

This isn’t the first time the Nintendo Switch 2 has made headlines. Previous leaks have described the console as “very capable” in terms of hardware, with the potential to run modern AAA games. Additionally, a recent revenue report from Foxconn Tech—a key Nintendo partner—suggested that Switch 2 units are already in storage, ready to ship.

Over the past few weeks, the internet has been flooded with leaks about everything from console dimensions to hardware specifications. While we now have a clearer picture of the Switch 2’s design, one crucial question remains unanswered: what games will it launch with?
