Wargaming, known for World of Tanks and World of Warships, has faced layoffs, with the QA department reportedly hit hardest.

Wargaming, the company behind popular titles like World of Tanks, has laid off an unspecified number of employees. According to multiple former staff members, the news was delivered internally today, January 15, 2025.

Reports indicate the QA department was hit the hardest, but the layoffs also extended to Art and potentially other teams. As of now, the exact percentage of employees affected hasn’t been confirmed. One source tells The Game Post that those laid off received two weeks of severance pay.

We’ve reached out to Wargaming for comment and will update this story if the company provides a statement.

The layoffs come just weeks after Wargaming announced its new IP, Steel Hunters, a new free-to-play mech hero shooter.

The game, revealed in December 2024, combines mech combat with Battle Royale and Extraction-style gameplay. Players take control of mechs known as “Hunters,” each with unique abilities, and battle it out for survival in a futuristic post-catastrophic setting.

It’s unclear how these staff reductions might impact the development of Steel Hunters or Wargaming’s other projects.
