Here’s how to complete Destiny 2’s massive chess ARG and unlock the Endgame rewards: the Umbral Rumble shader, Deinterlace exotic ship, and Enigmatology emblem.
The Destiny 2 community has once again pulled off something incredible. It started with players collecting 60 chess pieces across the system. Then, with this week’s reset, the second part of the ARG went live, which required players to play an actual in-game chess game.
The community then went on to collect and validate 4,096 images submitted by players worldwide, piecing together the complete solution to what turned out to be one of the game’s most complex ARG puzzles yet, similar to the Corridors of Time.
Now, thanks to the work from groups like RaidSecrets and countless contributors, the final solution has been found.
How To Complete the Destiny 2 ‘Endgame’ ARG Chess Puzzle
To solve the final puzzle, players need to recreate a very specific board layout using the piece nodes. Once you’re inside the Unknown Antechamber “Endgame” activity, stand on each node and shoot the appropriate square to place your pieces.
Here is the full list of piece placements:
- Queen to A6, A8, B6, C3, D6, E7, H4
- Rook to A4, B5, C2, F6, G2, G6, G8
- Bishop to A3, C6, D1, D3, E3, E5, H1
- Knight to B7, C1, D4, E1, F5, H2, H6
- Pawn to A5, B2, D5, F1, F2, G1, H5
Once you’ve placed every piece correctly, head up the staircase and look for the node labeled “Offer your Answer.” Interact with it to submit your solution.
If everything is correct, you’ll see all the fires around the chessboard ignite at once. The water podium across the room will begin to glow. Head over to it and interact with the new prompt that reads “The water reveals all…” – this will trigger a brand-new cutscene.
“Midgame” Puzzle Skip
If you want to skip directly to the final solution, there’s a shortcut using the Midgame to Endgame position. Launch the “MiddleGame” activity from the Last City destination.
Here’s the exact placement to use if you’re skipping directly:
- White Queen to D7
- White Knight to B2
- White Bishop to G7
- White Pawns to A6, F4
- White King to D1
- Black King to D8
Destiny 2 Chess ARG Rewards: All the Loot You Unlock
After the cutscene plays, a new chest will appear just below the glowing podium called “Riches of the Clever.” Open it and you’ll be rewarded with:
- Umbral Rumble shader
- Deinterlace exotic ship
- Enigmatology emblem
You’ll also receive a handful of extra loot, including an Exotic Cipher, three Ascendant Shards, 25 Strange Coins, and three Curio of the Nine.
