Bungie is getting ready to reveal Destiny 2’s first Major update of the year, Ash & Iron, and the Renegades expansion. Here’s the full schedule for the showcase reveal livestream.

The Edge of Fate expansion kicked off Destiny 2’s new “two expansions with two free major updates” content model for the Year of Prophecy. Launched in mid-July, this expansion kicked off the new Fate saga in Destiny 2.

And now, all eyes are on the next big content drops: the free Ash & Iron update, which takes us back to the Plaguelands from Destiny 1, and later this year, the Star Wars–inspired Renegades expansion lands as the second paid expansion. Bungie has confirmed a dedicated reveal stream alongside Ash & Iron.

What’s Coming With Ash & Iron Update

With the Ash & Iron update, Bungie is bringing back the Plaguelands with a kickoff event called New Territory, which leads into a new three-player activity, Reclaim. In addition to that, there will also be a brand-new exotic mission and two new exotic weapons for players to unlock.

The Portal (the new activity hub) is also getting some updates with more buffs to the loot drops and new activities being added to it.

In addition to that, Bungie is also releasing the Epic verison fo the Desert Perpetual raid later this month on September 20, 2025. This will have its own World First raid race and new rewards to unlock. The good news is that we already have an early look at some of the new loot coming with the Desert Perpetual Epic raid, thanks to a recent leak.

What Bungie Has Teased for Renegades

Renegades is Destiny 2’s first ever Star Wars-inpspired expansion, and will be released on December 2, 2025. While the actual gameplay details are currently under wraps, it looks like Bungie did give us a teaser for where the story will take us with this expansion.

A new lore book, “Treacherous Contacts,” teases a new Cabal faction on Mars working in a place called Tharsis. That name only ever popped up around Destiny 1’s Meridian Bay, which is why many now suspect Tharsis could be the next explorable destination in Renegades.

The same intel logs say this Cabal crew is targeting paracausal weapons. There’s also a thread about Psion engineers building a cipher that uses actual periodic elements as the key, hinting at outside help and tech that sits well beyond the usual Cabal toolkit.

Character-wise, the fan theory mill is already spinning. One widely shared breakdown links this plot to figures like Shin Malphur (Dredgen Vale) or Jana-14, while the Cabal are reportedly hunting the Drifter and his ship, the Derelict—all of which would fit with the expansion’s “lawless frontier” pitch.
