Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is making big changes to Microsoft’s gaming leadership team after recent revenue declines, saying Xbox needs to move faster and spend more time with its community.

Microsoft’s new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, is making some major changes to Xbox’s leadership team, and her message to staff is pretty direct: Xbox needs to move faster, work better, and spend more time listening to its community.

According to a memo viewed by CNBC, Sharma told employees, “We need to evolve how we work and how we are organized across our platform.” She added, “Right now, it is too hard to ship impact quickly. We spend too much time inward instead of with the community, and we lack the depth we need in some of the fundamentals.”

That is a blunt statement, but it also lines up with where Xbox is right now. Microsoft’s gaming business has seen revenue declines in four of the past six quarters, and Xbox hardware has continued to face heavy pressure from PlayStation and Nintendo. Sharma, who took over Xbox in February after Phil Spencer retired, now appears to be moving quickly to change how the business is run.

“We need to evolve how we work,” says Xbox CEO

As part of the shake-up, Sharma is bringing in several leaders from Microsoft’s CoreAI group, where she worked before moving to Xbox. Jared Palmer, formerly CoreAI VP of Product, is joining Xbox as VP of Engineering.

Tim Allen, formerly CoreAI VP of Design, will now lead design for Xbox. Jonathan McKay, who was CoreAI’s Head of Growth, is joining to lead Xbox growth, data platform, and analytics. Evan Chaki, formerly a CoreAI General Manager, will focus on simplifying development and improving how Xbox operates.

Xbox is trying to fix deeper problems inside the organization. The company wants to ship updates faster, improve its platform, and better understand what players and developers actually need.

There is also a bigger business issue here. Microsoft has already made some big changes to get people’s attention again, including recent Game Pass price cuts. But price cuts alone will not solve Xbox’s problems. Fans want stronger communication, better first-party games, a clearer hardware plan, and a platform that feels less scattered.
