Destiny fans have launched a fast-growing petition asking Sony to make Destiny 3 after Bungie confirmed Destiny 2’s live-service development is ending.
Destiny fans have had a rough few days. Bungie recently announced that Destiny 2’s final live-service content update will arrive on June 9, 2026, bringing an end to the game’s active development after years of updates, expansions, seasons, and major story content. The game will remain playable, but it being an actively updated live-service game is coming to an end.
At first, some fans hoped this might mean Bungie was finally clearing the way for Destiny 3, as implied by the wording in the official announcement. But that hope did not last long. Reports soon followed claiming that Destiny 3 is not currently in active development, and that Bungie is planning significant layoffs after Destiny 2’s live-service development ends. For a lot of players, that changed the mood from sad but hopeful to angry, worried, and heartbroken.

That reaction has now turned into a fan-led push asking Sony to step in and keep the franchise alive.
Destiny 3 Petition Asking Sony To Save The Franchise Nears 40,000 Signatures
A new petition on Change.org, started by Harley Casto, is asking Sony to develop Destiny 3. The petition was launched yesterday at around 1 PM PDT, and in less than a day, it has already reached nearly 40,000 signatures. (39,364 at the time of writing)
The petition reads:
“The Destiny franchise has captivated millions of gamers around the world with its immersive universe, thrilling gameplay, and strong sense of community. However, with the end of updates for Destiny 2, it’s time to take the next step and keep this beloved series thriving. That step is the development of Destiny 3.
“The desire for new adventures, fresh storylines, and innovative gameplay features is palpable among players everywhere. Destiny 3 would not only meet these demands but also expand the horizons of what is possible within this universe.
“Our passion and commitment to the Destiny franchise drives us to reach out to Sony and express our collective voice. We believe in the potential of Destiny 3 to inspire new generations of gamers and to keep the fire of the Guardian spirit alive.
“Join us in petitioning Sony to take this leap forward. Sign the petition to show your support for Destiny 3 and help us bring our love for this series to the next level. Together, let’s make Destiny 3 a reality.”

The petition has been spreading quickly across the Destiny community. Fans have shared it on X, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, Discord servers, and other community spaces, trying to get as many players as possible to sign and make noise around the future of the franchise.
Of course, the realistic answer is that petitions like this almost never work in a direct way. Sony is not going to approve a massive project like Destiny 3 just because a Change.org page gets a lot of signatures. A new mainline Destiny game would cost hundreds of millions of dollars, take years of development, and carry major risk, especially after Bungie’s recent struggles and the reported uncertainty around its future projects.

But that does not mean the petition is pointless.
What it does show is that many Destiny fans are not ready to let the franchise go. It gives Sony and Bungie a very public reminder that there is still demand for Destiny, even after years of frustration. If nothing else, it sends a message: players still care, and they want the universe to continue in some form.
Apart from that, former Bungie developers have recently been speaking out about the studio’s past decisions. Former Destiny 2 narrative designer Robert Brookes criticized former Bungie CEO Pete Parsons after the announcement, saying that he was the “real Destiny killer.” And, former Bungie community manager Liana Ruppert claimed the original version of Lightfall was “glorious” before being completely cut.
All of this has made Destiny’s future feel more uncertain than ever.
