Former Destiny 2 developer says a Xivu Arath campaign and raid were pitched multiple times, as fans react to reports that Destiny 3 is not in development.

Destiny fans are once again talking about what could have been, and this time, the focus is on Xivu Arath.

Following Bloomberg’s report that Destiny 3 is not in development, many players have been sharing what they would want from a true sequel. One post on X quickly caught attention after a user, LukeCB14, said they could not understand why Destiny 3 was not happening, adding that a campaign and massive raid centered on Xivu Arath would be a “slam dunk massive hit.”

The post read, “What do you mean D3 is not in development? Destiny 3 with a campaign and massive raid featuring Xivu Arath would be a slam dunk massive hit. Like, can we get this please?”

That idea clearly connected with a lot of fans. Xivu Arath has been one of Destiny’s biggest unresolved villains for years, and many players have expected her to eventually get the same major treatment as Oryx, Savathun, or the Witness. She was even properly teased in one of the cinematics released during Episode Heresy.

But the most interesting part came in the replies.

Robert Brookes, a former Destiny 2 senior narrative designer, responded to the post by saying, “You’d be surprised how many times this was pitched for D2.” Brookes worked as a senior narrative designer on Destiny 2 from 2020 to 2024. His credits span from Beyond Light through Episode: Revenant, covering years of major narrative developments, seasonal arcs, and character-focused storytelling leading into and beyond The Final Shape.

Xivu Arath Remains One Of Destiny’s Biggest Missed Opportunities

It is not hard to see why fans are frustrated. Xivu Arath has all the pieces needed for a major Destiny release. She is the Hive God of War, sister to Oryx and Savathun, and one of the last major Hive figures still standing. Her story has been built up through seasons, lore, dialogue, and major Hive conflicts, but she has still not received the kind of full expansion treatment many players expected.

All of this comes after Bungie‘s announcement yesterday that it will be ending live support for Destiny 2. The developer has confirmed that the game’s final live-service content update, Monument of Triumph, will arrive on June 9, 2026, after which Destiny 2 will remain playable but will no longer get the regular content support players have known for years.

At the same time, a recent report says Bungie does not currently have Destiny 3 in development, and that the studio may be facing “significant” layoffs after Destiny 2’s active development ends.
