Newly leaked GTA 6 gameplay footage is reportedly over a year old.

GTA 6 has been hit by another batch of leaks, with several clips appearing online earlier today. The footage appears to show Jason playing basketball outside a beachfront property, driving around Leonida, interacting with NPCs and attracting police attention.

Take-Two Interactive has also been issuing DMCA strikes against copies of the leaked footage. It was also reported that GTA 6 preview events are currently underway, although the report claimed that the leaked clips were unlikely to have originated from those sessions.

Now, an insider has provided an important detail about when the footage was apparently recorded.

GTA 6 Gameplay Footage Is Reportedly More Than a Year Old

Gaming insider NateTheHate has claimed on ResetEra that the newly surfaced GTA 6 footage is actually more than a year old, meaning the clips shouldn’t be treated as representative of the version Rockstar is working with today.

Responding to discussion around Insider Gaming’s report about current preview events, NateTheHate wrote: “Um…. unless a new round of previews are underway, this claim isn’t accurate. Also, the leaked footage is over a year old.”

If accurate, that would place the footage at August 2025 or earlier. It also gives some useful context to the rougher elements visible in the clips. The basketball footage, for example, appears to contain unfinished-looking HUD elements and some awkward animation work. Those details make considerably more sense if we’re looking at an internal development build from over 12 months ago rather than something captured weeks before launch.

It also means any mechanics shown should be treated carefully. Basketball, vehicle refueling, the wanted level and other systems may still exist in the current game, but more than a year of development gives Rockstar plenty of time to alter or remove features. The leaked footage tells us what GTA 6 apparently contained at that point in production, not exactly what players will get in November.

Rockstar‘s next confirmed showing is much closer. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, while GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
