A big Destiny announcement may be close after following hints from creators and insiders.
One of the biggest Destiny 2 creators, Aztecross, has now put a rough clock on whatever he has been hinting at around Destiny, and his latest comments point toward the week of September 21, which starts today.
During a September 17 livestream last week, the Destiny creator returned to the mysterious three-week timeline he first mentioned earlier this month and told viewers they were only in week two.
The timing overlaps with a strange run of posts from Forbes contributor and insider Paul Tassi. On September 14, Tassi posted on X, “Big week!”, a message that Bungie‘s Head of Product, Josh Deane, later reposted.
Three days later, Tassi was directly challenged by a Destiny player who told him that vagueposting would be irresponsible if his hints had nothing to do with Destiny. His response was, “I do understand that.”
Aztecross made his timeline much harder to ignore on Thursday.
A Big Destiny Announcement May Be Just Days Away
During his September 17 livestream, Aztecross told viewers: “In regards to other news, remember I told you guys three weeks.” About 10 seconds later, he narrowed the window further. “We’re on week two. I think it might be another week.”
He then added: “Okay. I’m setting expectations right now. All right.”
Aztecross returned to the subject several hours later when a viewer directly asked, “Any D2 news, bro?” His answer was, “Uh, not yet, Skyler. Not yet.” He then added, “But hopefully we’ll hear something,” before saying, “We’ll see. I’m feeling hopeful for the next week.”
That second exchange is harder to separate from Destiny speculation because the viewer explicitly asked about Destiny 2. Taken literally, another week from September 17 puts the end of Aztecross’ original window somewhere around September 24, depending on exactly when he started counting.
He didn’t say Bungie would announce Destiny 3 on that date.
Tassi’s behavior adds another layer. After spending the week posting cryptic messages, he wrote on September 17, “Alright I regret this week, my fault, going dark.” That post came after the Destiny speculation surrounding his earlier comments had grown considerably.
Take all of it with a grain of salt.
Bungie hasn’t announced a new Destiny game or confirmed that another Destiny reveal is scheduled. Its official position remains that Destiny 2’s planned live-service development ended with Monument of Triumph on June 9. Bungie’s May statement did leave the wider franchise door open, saying the time had come for “Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2” as the studio began incubating future games.
Aztecross’ wording supports the idea that he expects some news around the end of his three-week window. It tells us nothing concrete about the size of that news. A new Destiny project entering development, limited Destiny 2 support, or something else around the franchise would all fit the language just as easily.
What’s pretty much confirmed from these hints and teasers is that some sort of announcement related to the Destiny IP is coming by the end of this week. If nothing happens by the end of the week, the hints are going to need a much better explanation.
