Bungie is putting Destiny 2’s Gambit mode on hiatus for Edge of Fate, but promises “plans to bring the spotlight back” in the future.
Destiny 2’s next big content launch, Edge of Fate, is right around the corner. Launching July 15, this new expansion is the start of the next multi-year saga in Destiny called “The Fate Saga.” It promises to shake things up with the new Portal system, a non-linear campaign, and a much-anticipated Armor 3.0 overhaul.
But when it comes to Gambit, there’s a different kind of update on the way. If you were hoping for a big Gambit overhaul with this expansion, there isn’t a major rework launching alongside Edge of Fate. Instead, Bungie has announced that Gambit is heading into a sort of break period starting with this expansion.
Destiny 2 Gambit Going on Hiatus, Bungie Promises a Return
The new info comes directly from Bungie’s latest This Week in Destiny blog, where the developers outlined what’s next for Gambit. According to the post, Gambit will still be available to play, and you can keep earning legacy rewards for transmog, but it won’t be getting any new content or seasonal focus at launch. Gambit will live under the new “Worlds” (previously Destinations) tab, and the Drifter will remain as a vendor for gear focusing.
“As The Edge of Fate approaches, we wanted to share with you all that Gambit will also be taking a form of hiatus,” the article reads. “Players will still be able to play the activity and earn legacy rewards for transmog purposes, and the activity will live under the ‘Worlds’ tab as it does now. If there is any specific gear you’re looking for, Drifter will still be able to focus them as a vendor.
“This is not the end of Gambit, though. Besides continuing to support the mode for legacy rewards and Triumphs, we have plans to bring the spotlight back to Gambit in the future, with updated rewards and mechanics that players haven’t seen since the days of Prime.”
So, while Gambit is taking a breather, Bungie says there are ideas in the works to revamp the mode with new rewards and mechanics. The studio hasn’t given a timeline yet, but it sounds like Gambit could see a meaningful update further down the line.
Meanwhile, Edge of Fate is bringing a ton of fresh content. There are five (potentially six) new Exotic items coming, new Artifact perks, and a brand-new Shooting Range now available on day one.
