After eight years since its original release, Bungie has reprised the classic Crota’s End raid in Destiny 2, with updated weapons, the beloved Age of Triumph armor, cosmetics, and the fan-favorite raid exotic — Necrochasm.
The raid features updates encounters, and all-new challenges for players to complete. Similar to the raid in Destiny 1, there are some secret chests scattered throughout the Crota’s End raid in Destiny 2, which can be hard to find for new players.

In this guide, we have a comprehensive guide on how you can find and unlock the Crota’s End secret chests in Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 Crota’s End Red Border Chest
Like other raids in Destiny 2, Crota’s End also has a chest that appears after you finish the final encounter and gives you a guaranteed Deepsight weapon (red border). However, to activate this secret chest, you need to complete a series of objectives during the entire raid, from beginning to end. Here’s how this works. (thanks, Skarrow9)
When you spawn in the raid, take a look across the Hellmouth and you will notice three sets of Hive statues. The first pair is located on the far left of the area, the second pair can be found on the top right next to the ledge with two green lights, and the third pair is situated at the bottom right.
If you look closely, each one of these sets has one Hive statue on fire. Take note of which one it is as it will be random every run. This is similar to the red border chest in the Root of Nightmares raid.
How This Works
You must locate three pairs of Hive statues throughout the raid and activate the one (set it on fire) — left or right, depending on the original sets.
- Correct Activation: If you’ve activated the right statue, a message will pop up on the left of your screen, saying “A balance is reached. To the victor go the final spoils.”
- Incorrect Activation: If you’ve activated the wrong statue, a message will pop up on the left of your screen, saying “An irredeemable mistake…”
Hive Statues Set 1 — Before the Bridge Encounter
At the start of the Bridge encounter, two rooms are located at the bottom left and right with a giant pillar at the center with blue lights. Each room has a Hive statue, with the left statue in the left room and the right statue in the right room. (from where you spawn)
Activate the statue that corresponds to the first set of Hive statues in the Hellmouth. (far left)
Hive Statues Set 2 — After the Bridge Encounter
The second set of statues is located in the same encounter but across the bridge. Upon completing the Bridge encounter, you’ll find the two statues located at the left and right ends of the area.
Again, activate the statue that corresponds to the second set of Hive statues in the Hellmouth. (top right)
Hive Statues Set 3 — After the Deathsinger Encounter
Once you have finished the Ir Yut Deathsinger encounter, you can find the final set of statues in the last arena. Head towards the top of the middle room where there is a large crystal that initiates the Crota encounter. The two statues will be located outside in the top balcony area.
- Important note: The statues’ location depends on your position relative to the giant Oversoul in the sky. In other words, if you’re facing the statues like in the photo below, they’ll be flipped. The left side will be on your right, and the right side will be on your left.
Activate the statue that corresponds to the third set of Hive statues in the Hellmouth. (bottom right)
And that’s it! If done correctly, a separate chest will spawn after completing the Crota encounter that will drop a guaranteed red border weapon. Here’s a video guide on how it works.
Destiny 2 Crota’s End Secret Chest #1
To find the first secret chest in the Crota’s End raid, head to the Traverse the Abyss (Lamps) encounter. After you drop down from the, proceed towards the far left of the area until you come across a wall.
Stay close to this wall and continue moving forward. You will eventually encounter several doors that will open up as you approach them. These doors have Keep moving forward until you reach the fifth door and the first secret chest will spawn in this small room.
If you’re fast enough, you can get this chest solo before the debuff timer runs out and eventually wipes everyone. You can watch this video guide below.
Destiny 2 Crota’s End Secret Chest #2
The second secret chest in Crota’s End raid can be found in the hallway after you complete the Cross the Bridge encounter. The goal here is to pick up the Chalice of Light buff and dunk it at the end of the hallway before the giant door closes.
Once you pick up the Chalice of Light buff, pass it to the next person to get yourself Enlightened. Go through the energy barrier and kill the Hive Shrieker quickly. This will unlock the path for your fireteam. Repeat this process for the second barrier, ensuring someone becomes Enlightened and quickly kills the Shrieker. During this round, the Chalice holder must move swiftly through the enemies and dunk it at the podium before the large pit.
Since there are tons of enemies, make sure you have Well of Radiance, Gjallarhorn, to help clear the area. If done in time, the giant door will open and you will see the second secret chest spawn inside. You can check out the video for better understanding.
