Destiny 2‘s assistant game director has responded to the alleged “Classic” and “Modern” leak that was reported yesterday.

Yesterday, a new Destiny 2 “leak” claimed that Bungie once considered splitting the game into separate “Classic” and “Modern” versions, with Classic preserving older content, while Modern would have carried the post-The Edge of Fate content forward around the Portal. The same leak claimed Bungie discussed roughly three more years for the Fate Saga and about six DLC releases before its direction changed again.

The leaker said the source behind it disappeared before publishing a promised Pastebin. Deakstiny also said they were never told whether the split was an approved production plan or an internal idea being discussed, leaving a large caveat hanging over the entire leak.

Sony’s June layoffs give the latest response some extra context. PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said the cuts affected most of the Destiny team, yet Robbie Stevens’ LinkedIn profile still lists Bungie as his employer. Bungie has publicly identified Stevens as Destiny 2’s Assistant Game Director.

Now, Stevens has directly responded to this leak.

Destiny 2 Director Robbie Stevens Pushes Back on the Leak

Yesterday, Forbes contributor Paul Tassi posted a YouTube video about the Classic and Modern claims, describing them as “that supposed leak of a pitch that was meant to continue Destiny 2 by splitting it in half.” Today, Stevens replied directly to Tassi’s post with a single red X emoji: “❌.”

Stevens didn’t add any explanation, so the reply can’t safely be treated as Bungie formally debunking every detail in Deakstiny’s infodump. The red X could be rejecting the broader Classic and Modern claim.

Still, public pushback from a current director carries considerably more weight than another anonymous counter-rumor, especially after Sony cut most of the Destiny team in June.

Stevens’ response now puts a very large asterisk beside that story.

In other news, Destiny has been unusually noisy again over the past few weeks. Recently, several creators began posting cryptic comments that kicked off speculation about a possible Destiny 2 revival or a new Destiny project. Bungie still hasn’t announced a new Destiny game, and Destiny 2 remains at the end of planned live-service development following Monument of Triumph on June 9.

Days after those rumors picked up, Bungie also confirmed it is exploring options to sublease nearly 211,000 square feet of its Bellevue headquarters following Sony’s June cuts.
