Destiny 2 Edge of Fate kicks off Bungie’s new multi-year story, the Fate Saga. Here’s everything you need to know about its release, content, and how the game is changing.
Destiny 2’s next big saga begins this July with the launch of Edge of Fate, the first expansion in what Bungie is calling the Year of Prophecy. This isn’t just another update, it marks the beginning of a completely new structure for how content is released.
From new in-game systems, Armor 3.0,, to new destinations and major feature overhauls, this is the reset point many players have been waiting for. If you’re planning to jump in, here’s a full breakdown of everything we now know.
Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Release Date and Global Launch Times
Edge of Fate officially launches on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and the rollout will happen simultaneously across all regions. Here’s when you can start playing:
- 9 AM PT (Pacific Time)
- 12 PM ET (Eastern Time)
- 5 PM BST (British Summer Time)
- 6 PM CEST (Central European Summer Time)
- 1 AM JST (Japan Standard Time) – July 16
- 2 AM AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) – July 16
Keep in mind, servers usually go down for a few hours beforehand for maintenance. So make sure your game’s updated and ready to go before reset hits.
Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate Platforms
The Edge of Fate will be available on all the same platforms that currently support Destiny 2. That includes both old and new-gen consoles, as well as multiple PC storefronts:

- Xbox One
- Steam
- Microsoft Store
- Epic Games Store
No major platform changes are expected, so wherever you’re already playing Destiny 2, you’ll be able to continue there with The Edge of Fate.
The Edge of Fate Editions and Pricing Breakdown
Bungie is offering several different ways to pick up Edge of Fate, depending on how much content you want access to. There’s a Standard Edition, a Year of Prophecy Edition, and a fully-loaded Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition.
The Standard Edition costs $40 and gives you access to the Edge of Fate campaign, a brand-new raid, and one Active Rewards Pass. The Year of Prophecy Edition costs $80 and includes both Edge of Fate and the second expansion, Renegades, along with a new dungeon, the raid, four total reward passes, and extra cosmetic unlocks.
The Edge of Fate Ultimate Edition costs $100 and comes with everything from the previous tiers and adds even more extras like an Exotic Emote, a new Sparrow, a full set of themed armor ornaments for each class, the Secret Stash pack (with upgrade materials and cosmetics), and the instantly unlocked Exotic Sniper Rifle, New Land Beyond, complete with its catalyst and ornament.
There’s also a $275 Collector’s Edition available from the Bungie Store. It comes in two options, with or without a game code, and includes all Ultimate Edition content plus physical items like a statue, lore materials, and more.
The Edge of Fate Pre-Order Bonuses
Depending on which edition you pre-order, you can unlock some bonuses right away. These include:
- New Land Beyond: Exotic Sniper Rifle (included in Ultimate and Collector’s Editions)
- Anisotropic Shell: Exotic Ghost (instant unlock)
- External Sights: Legendary Emblem (instant unlock)
- Exotic Emote: Ultimate Edition
- Exotic Sparrow: Ultimate Edition (available July 15)

The Edge of Fate Raid Release Date
The Edge of Fate expansion will bring a brand-new raid to Destiny 2 on Saturday, July 19, 2025. Bungie has officially confirmed the date, giving players a few days after launch to prepare.
As usual, this raid will also kick off the next World First Race, where top fireteams compete to be the first in the world to clear it.
What’s New in Edge of Fate
New Destination: Kepler
Edge of Fate introduces Kepler, a strange new destination built around exploration and puzzle-like design. It’s packed with secrets and powered by dark matter energy that players will learn to use. That includes new powers like Matterspark, which lets you transform to move faster or squeeze through tight spaces, and two other abilities: the Relocator Cannon for fast teleportation, and Mattermorph for environmental manipulation.
The Portal
Bungie is revamping how players find content with a new activity hub called The Portal. This interface replaces the old Director menu and splits activities into four clear types: Solo Ops, Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, and Crucible Ops. There’s also a modifier system with 50+ gameplay tweaks and curated playlists that offer better rewards and replay variety.
Gear Updates and Loadout Customization
Edge of Fate is also making some huge changes to armor and weapons. The Armor 3.0 system introduces new stats that can push your builds further, and armor sets now offer bonuses if worn in pairs or more. On top of that, there’s a five-tier gear system, with better stats and perks tied to tougher activities.
And for those who love testing builds, Bungie is adding a firing range three weeks after launch. It’ll let you and your entire raid team test out weapons against all enemy types with infinite ammo and damage numbers visible.
Destiny 2 Renegades Release Date
Later this year, Bungie will release the second expansion in the Year of Prophecy: Renegades, coming on December 2, 2025. It draws inspiration from Star Wars with brand-new characters, mechanics, and surprises.
