Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion is launching tomorrow. Here’s a full breakdown of all the early patch notes for update 9.0.0.1 including weapon buffs, exotic armor reworks, subclass changes, and more.

We’re now less than 24 hours away from the launch of Destiny 2’s next major expansion, Edge of Fate, and Bungie has finally laid out what to expect when the new update rolls out. This is the first expansion in the new Fate saga and it looks like a huge step forward for Destiny, both in how it plays and how players build their loadouts.

Edge of Fate introduces a bunch of big system changes, including the new Portal system, updated gear tiering, and a total overhaul of armor stats. On top of that, Bungie is rolling out a massive round of sandbox balance changes across weapons, armor, subclasses, and abilities.

Original story: In this article, we’re going over all the early patch notes for Edge of Fate update 9.0.0.1. That includes exotic weapon and armor changes, subclass tweaks, ability tuning, and updates to Trials of Osiris and core gameplay systems.

Destiny 2 Update 9.0.0.1: Early Patch Notes Preview for Edge of Fate

Below is a full breakdown of all the changes currently confirmed for Destiny 2: Edge of Fate update 9.0.0.1.

Exotic Weapon Changes

  • Vigilance Wing: Last Stand bonus is now active when running solo in PvE activities.
  • Hierarchy of Needs:
    • Players now gain charges of Guidance Ring with any hit from Hierarchy of Needs, and now only need three charges to deploy the ring.
    • Hierarchy’s spawned Guidance Ring duration increased from 13s to 20s.
    • Hierarchy’s spawned Guidance Ring now rotates to face its owner.
    • Players are now limited to one Guidance Ring in the world per player. Spawning a second one will remove your previous ring.
    • All Bows now spawn missiles when fired through an allied player’s Guidance Ring.
    • Fixed an issue where Hierarchy’s seeker missiles would not play detonation visual effects when colliding with world geometry.
  • Dead Man’s Tale: +3.4% damage per Cranial Spike stack (up to 17%); +1 round reload per stack.
  • Duality: Added a secondary activator for On Black Wings, now gives the buff when landing most of your pellets on a target
  • The Navigator: Woven Mail gives +25% PvE damage and +5% PvP; more ammo generation.
  • Wicked Implement: Changed to rapid-fire; needs 1 extra hit to freeze; mag size increased to 20; now anti-Overload.
  • Heartshadow: Increased ammo reserves; heavy attack costs 3 (was 4); kills while Shot in the Dark active make you invisible.
  • Worldline Zero: Tesseract lunge goes 3m farther; can’t chain two blinks; after kill, you can Tesseract again briefly.
  • Devil’s Ruin: Beam fires on special reload now; scorches on hit, ignites on kill; firesprite pickup enables reload; mag size is now 20; now anti-Unstoppable.
  • Tommy’s Matchbook: Ignition Trigger shows HUD bar; Cure x1 on kill while active; hip-fire self-damage reduced.
    • Heat Sink: Hip-fire self-damage decreased to 50% less damage than ADS self-damage, previously 33% less damage. Scorch on hit is unchanged.
    • Catalyst: Removed improved health regen. Now final blows while Ignition Trigger is active grant Cure x1 to the user.
  • Winterbite: Melee damage vs bosses down from +50% to +20%; now anti-Overload.

Intrinsic Anti-Champion Perks

  • Anti-Unstoppable: Queenbreaker, Salvation’s Grip, Dragon’s Breath
  • Anti-Overload: Tractor Cannon, DARCI, Two-Tailed Fox
  • Conditional Finality: Can be anti-Overload or anti-Unstoppable depending on element

Weapon Archetype Updates

  • Machine Guns: Staged reload now resumes from last checkpoint. When a player cancels a reload animation and starts it again, it will resume from the latest checkpoint.
  • Glaives: Less tracking at close range.

Weapon Perk Changes

  • Reconstruction: Ammo transfer up to 25% per activation.
  • Paracausal Affinity: Now shows a visible timer.
  • Kinetic Tremors: Requires fewer hits to activate across multiple archetypes.
    • Decreased shots to activate on certain weapons and subfamilies.
    • High-Impact Auto Rifles require nine hits down from 12.
    • Aggressive and High-Impact Scout Rifles require five hits down from six.
    • Hand Cannon subfamilies have received specific tuning,
    • Aggressive Hand Cannons require four hits down from six.
    • Adaptive Hand Cannons require five hits down from six.
    • Precision Hand Cannons are unchanged and still require six shots to activate.
  • One-Two Punch: Works with all melees; now lasts 3 seconds.
  • Attrition Orbs: +20% base progress; grenade launchers -80%; swords +30%.
  • Eager Edge / Valiant Charge: Reduced aim assist on lunges; now requires better aim.
    • While active, melee search angle is now reduced by 50% at the start of lunge range and by 88% at the edge of lunge range.
  • Chain Reaction / Dragonfly / Firefly: Damage now scales consistently across all weapon types.

Exotic Armor Changes

Hunter:

  • Dragon’s Shadow: Now passive; dodge reloads only equipped weapon.
  • Speedloader Slacks: Dodging reloads all weapons and grants increased handling and reload speed for you and nearby allies. While this buff is active, additional dodges increase the strength of the buff and refresh the timer.
  • Mask of Bakris: Reworked Light Shift; now stacks +10% damage for Stasis/Arc weapons.
    • No longer provides a non-stacking “Surge” damage bonus.
    • Now grants +10% damage for eligible weapons (Stasis weapons, Arc weapons, and Lord of Wolves) per stack.
    • Stacks up to three times.
    • While active, weapon final blows grant class ability energy.
  • Khepri’s Sting: Smoke kills now weaken targets and refund energy.
    • Added: Killing weakened targets creates a burst of weakening smoke and returns smoke bomb energy.
  • Oathkeepers: Damage bonus raised to +200%; bonus ramps up faster.
  • Blight Ranger: More consistent reflection damage; now always applies Blind.
    • Adjusted Voltaic Mirror meter behavior: Now requires 25% less reflections to reach maximum. Fills more evenly. Blocked melee attacks now count as a reflection.
    • Maximum cancellation damage increased by 50%
    • Minimum cancellation damage increased by 150%.
    • Now always applies Blind before dealing damage.
    • Updated visuals, audio, and timing of the blinding shockwave to better reflect its impact.

Melee changes:

  • Athrys’s Embrace: PvE Weighted Throwing Knife damage bonus increased from 200% to 300%.
  • Liar’s Handshake (and Spirit of the Liar): PvE basic melee and Arc melee damage increased from 200% to 400%.
  • Ophidia Spathe: Maximum PvE Throwing Knife damage bonus increased from 100% to 200%.
  • Triton Vice: PvE Glaive melee damage bonus increased from 100% to 200%.

Warlock:

  • Starfire Protocol: More energy from damage; slightly less from kills.
    • Now also activates on Radiant damage.
    • Increased the Fusion Grenade energy gain from dealing damage from 2.5% to 5%.
    • Reduced Fusion Grenade energy gain from final blows from 20% to 15%.
  • Wings of Sacred Dawn: Now grants Restoration and reloads stowed weapons.
    • While a Solar Super is equipped, Solar Weapon final blows now grant Restoration and reload your stowed weapons.
  • Felwinter’s Helm: Powered melee now weakens enemies.
    • Applies a 15% weaken.
    • Weaken effects applied by the burst via melee or finisher final blows are unchanged.
  • Promethium Spurs: Healing Rift = Radiant pulse; Empowering Rift = Cure pulse.
    • While in a Healing Rift, weapon defeats create a pulse that grants Radiant to you and nearby allies.
    • While in an Empowering Rift, weapon defeats instead grant Cure to you and nearby allies.
  • Boots of the Assembler: Seekers spawn at fixed rate; better targeting and energy return.
    • Noble Seekers no longer spawn in waves and instead spawn at a constant rate based on fireteam size.
    • Noble Seeker tracking range changed to 40 meters always (from 20 to 40 meters based on time alive).
    • Noble Seekers will prioritize allies who have not been healed in the last eight seconds.
    • Noble Seekers can now target allies standing in the rift producing them.
    • Noble Seekers will not target an ally more than once every four seconds.
    • Noble Seekers will not detonate when passing near an ally they are not targeting.
    • No longer grants extended rift duratio
  • Geomag Stabilizers: Faster super gain from sprinting; lower Ionic Trace energy gain.
    • Reduced Super energy granted by ionic traces to 4% (from 7%)
    • Retuned sprinting to top off Bolt Charge:
      • Decreased Bolt Charge stacks required before sprinting will grant additional stacks from six to five.
      • Decreased the amount of time required for sprinting to start granting Bolt Charge from two seconds to one.
      • Increased the rate Bolt Charge is granted while this effect is active from one every 1.5 seconds to one every 0.33 seconds
  • Sanguine Alchemy: Swapping to this Exotic in combat will now apply a 10-second cooldown before its perk can be activated.
  • Winter’s Guile: PvE melee bonus up to 400%. (Melee)

Titan:

  • Crest of Alpha Lupi: Sustained damage while behind a barricade triggers another smaller healing pulse. Healing your allies grants barricade energy.
  • Phoenix Cradle: Updated VFX on Sunspots while the user has Phoenix Cradles to look more clearly supportive to allies.
    • Added additional effects: Dealing sustained Solar weapon damage in a Sunspot extends its duration. Providing Solar buffs to allies has the chance to create a Sunspot at your feet.
  • Mk. 44 Stand Asides: Sprinting with Juggernaut active periodically grants you a stack of Static Charge. Sprinting while amplified creates an area behind you that grants allies Speed Booster.
  • Path of Burning Steps: Roaring Flame now scales Solar and Ignition damage.
    • Roaring Flame x1/2/3 grants +10/15/20% bonus Solar weapon damage and +5/10/15% bonus Ignition damage. (Stacks with Surge mods.)
    • Reduces the duration of Suspend, Slow, and Freeze effects applied to you.
  • Actium War Rig: Auto Rifle or Machine gun final blows increase their stability, ammo generation, and damage. (Stacks up to ten times. Higher stack counts expire more quickly.)
  • Abeyant Leap: Now increases the duration of Suspend applied by enhanced Drengr’s Lashes.
  • Stoicism – Spirit of Alpha Lupi: Added: Healing your allies grants class ability energy.

Melee changes:

  • Heart of Inmost Light: Maximum PvE melee damage bonus increased from 20% to 50%. Now increases the damage of unpowered and Glaive melee abilities.
  • Peregrine Greaves: Shoulder charge ability impact damage bonus against non-Champion, non-Tormentor, and non-miniboss targets increased from 363% to 400%.
  • Synthoceps and Spirit of the Synthoceps:
    • Melee damage bonus is unchanged (165%).
    • Melee damage bonus is no longer decreased when used with Combination Blow, Stylish Executioner, and Glaive Melee.
    • Damage bonus is still decreased against players when used with Lightning Surge.
  • Wishful Ignorance: Maximum PvE Frenzied Blade melee damage bonus increased from 100% to 200%. Maximum PvE Flechette Storm melee damage bonus increased from 50% to 200%.
  • Wormgod Caress: Maximum PvE melee damage bonus increased from 275% to 400%. Melee damage bonus is no longer decreased when used with Roaring Flames or Glaive melee.

Subclass & Ability Changes

General:

  • +15% damage vs bosses/champs for select grenades (Arc, Void, Solar, Kinetic).
    • Arc: Flux Grenade, Arcbolt Grenade, Flashbang Grenade, Storm Grenade
    • Void: Axion Bolt Grenade, Suppressor Grenade
    • Solar: Firebolt Grenade, Tripmine Grenade
    • Kinetic: The Rock Grenade (Forerunner)
  • Devour: Healing reduced from 200 to 140 HP.
  • Suspend: Duration increased to 6 seconds.
  • Stasis Shatter: Now stuns Overload, not Unstoppable.
  • Flux Grenade: Bigger projectile size; faster cooldown.

Titan:

  • Consecration (Solar): Fragment slots increased (2 to 3).
  • Drengr’s Lash: Better tracking and range.
    • Increased tracking strength of base Suspend wave and Abeyant Leap Exotic-armor Suspend wave.
    • Increased base Suspend wave travel distance from 20m to 30m.
    • Increased Abeyant Leap Suspend wave travel distance from 30m to 35m.
  • Shield Throw: +77% tracking.
  • Storm’s Keep (Aspect): Benefits no longer stack when standing behind multiple Barricades.

Hunter:

  • Gambler’s Dodge: No longer needs enemies nearby for melee energy return.
  • Prismatic/Solar Gunpowder Gamble: Any final blow grants charge; self-damage reduced by 60%.
  • Solar On Your Mark: Final Blows while at three stacks of On Your Mark now make you Radiant for a short time. Activating your class ability now gives one stack of On Your Mark instead of three stacks.
  • Ascension: Now works with armor mods and perks.
    • Armor mods
      • Reaper
      • Powerful Attraction
      • Outreach
      • Distribution
      • Bomber
      • Dynamo
    • Exotics
      • Heart of Inmost Light (class item)
      • Gryfalcon’s Reserve overshield
  • Winter’s Shroud / Ascension: Fragment slots reduced (3 to 2).

Warlock:

  • Pocket Singularity: +20% damage to regular foes, +56% to bosses.
  • Prismatic Bleak Watcher / Hellion: Fragment slots reduced (3 to 2).
  • Prismatic/Strand Weaver’s Call: Now spawns Threadlings from any final blow.

Trials of Osiris Changes

  • Trials will no longer be power-enabled starting July 15.
  • All players will enter on equal footing.
  • Must be at Power Level 200 to participate.
  • Must own Edge of Fate expansion to play Trials.

Prismatic Subclass Fragment Rollbacks

  • Bungie originally planned to cut fragment slots for some powerful Aspects.
  • After community pushback, they rolled it back:
    • Aspects like Consecration, Knockout, Feed the Void, and Stylish Executioner will stay at 2 fragment slots, not 1.
  • Some 3-slot Aspects were still reduced to 2 for balance.
  • Bungie plans more tuning later, including buffs
