Marvel Rivals Mid-Season 1 Update Patch Notes Leaked Ahead of Official Release

A new Marvel Rivals mid-Season 1 update is dropping later this week, and it looks like dataminers have already found the patch notes. Here’s what’s changing and what to expect.

Marvel Rivals has been making waves ever since its launch in December 2024, bringing together some of the biggest Marvel heroes and villains in a fast-paced 6v6 shooter. Players have been grinding the ranked ladder, experimenting with different team-ups, and getting used to the game’s unique mechanics. The first half of Season 1 has already introduced a lot, including two new heroes: Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman.

Later this week, the mid-season update will drop, adding two new playable heroes: The Thing and Human Torch, along with balance changes to a bunch of existing characters.

However, it looks like the patch notes have already surfaced early, thanks to dataminers.

This comes from X0X_LEAK, a well-known X (Twitter) account for sharing Marvel Rivals leaks. They posted what they believe are the patch notes for this week’s 202521 update. The update is set to go live on February 21, 2025.

While this gives us a good look at what’s changing, it’s always good to approach the leaks with caution and wait for the official confirmation. Now, let’s get into what’s supposedly coming in this update.

Venom’s “Frenzied Arrival” ability now features an inward knockback at a specific angle, making it more effective in controlling enemy positioning. Additionally, the ultimate energy cost has been reduced to allow for more frequent usage.

  • Frenzied Arrival has been changed from vertical Knockback to inwards knockback at a 75° angle; Ultimate cost reduced: 2800 to 2500

Captain America:

Captain America’s defensive utility has been improved with “Absolute Will” now being usable while jumping. Additionally, his projectile attack, “Vibranium Energy Saw,” has been enhanced for better speed and effectiveness.

  • Added the ability to use Absolute Will for defense during jumping; Vibranium Energy Saw projectile speed increased from 60m/s to 80m/s. Ejection speed after a hit increased from 100m/s to 150m/s.

Thor:

Thor’s “Rune Awakening” ability no longer has a cooldown after its duration ends.

  • Removed cooldown after the Rune Awakening skill duration ends.

Groot:

Groot’s wall placement range has been slightly extended, allowing for better positioning and area control.

  • Wall placement range increased from 15m to 18m.

Magneto:

Magneto’s primary attack has been buffed for more damage, but the energy cost of his “Curtain” ability has been raised.

  • Primary attack damage increased from 35 to 40; Curtain energy cost increased from 50 to 65; duration adjusted from 2 to 1.5.

Doctor Strange:

Doctor Strange’s base HP has been slightly reduced.

  • Base HP lowered from 650 to 600.

Iron Fist:

Iron Fist has received multiple changes, including a higher base HP and stronger healing from Harmony Recovery. However, some of his combo attacks have been toned down.

  • Harmony Recovery: Bonus HP provided increased from 50 to 150 with HP decay at 25/s.
  • Dragon’s Defense: HP converted from block increased from 150 to 200.
  • Base HP increased from 250 to 300.
  • Jeet Kune Do’s 1st, 2nd, and 5th attack damage reduced from 32 to 30. 3rd and 4th damage reduced from 16 to 15. 6th damage reduced from 55 to 50.
  • The cooldown time of each hit to reduce the combo attack increased from 1 second to 1.5 seconds, and the damage of each hit of the Sun Punch decreased from 19 to 10.
  • Each hit of the Sun-Shaped Punch adds 1.7% of the opponent’s maximum health as damage.

Mr. Fantastic:

Mr. Fantastic’s Flexible Elongation ability now has a larger spell field and knocks enemies outward. His Brainiac Bounce damage has been increased but at a higher energy cost.

  • Mr. Fantastic:
    • Flexible Elongation: Spell Field increased from 2.5 to 5m. Now knocks enemies outwards after landing. Charge increased from 8s to 10s.
    • Brainiac Bounce: Damage increased from 50 to 70. Energy cost increased from 2800 to 3400. Damage fall off: damage starts decaying at 3m to a max of 50 damage at 10m.

Iron Man:

Iron Man’s Unibeam gets a power boost.

  • Unibeam damage increased from 120/s to 140/s. Armor Overdrive Unibeam increased from 180/s to 190/s.

Hawkeye:

Hawkeye’s health is increased slightly, but his Explosive Arrow damage is reduced to balance things out. His Ultimate now charges faster.

  • Base Health increased from 250 to 275.
  • Explosive Arrow: Damage decreased from 20 to 15, Spell Field damage increased from 25 to 32.
  • Crescent Slash: Cooldown decreased from 15s to 12s.
  • Ultimate: Bow charge speed is accelerated, Draw speed increased from 1.2 to 1.35

Storm:

Storm’s ranged damage gets toned down slightly, but her team aura now provides a better boost.

  • Wind Blade: Damage at 30m reduced from 70% to 60%.
  • Aura: Self-boost from 16% to 12%. Teamboost from 8% to 10%.
  • Goddess Boost (Thunder): Self-boost damage increased from 30% to 25%.

Star-Lord:

His Ultimate is now more expensive, meaning it won’t be used as frequently.

Scarlet Witch:

Wanda’s Ultimate now gives a temporary HP boost on cast but quickly decays if interrupted or ended.

  • Ultimate: 100 bonus HP applied on cast. Decays at 50/s after interrupt/end.

Spider-Man:

Spider-Man’s web shooters received a buff, decreasing the recharge time.

  • Web-Shooters’ recharge time decreased from 3s to 2.5s.

Moon Knight:

Moon Knight’s Ultimate ability has received a significant nerf.

  • Ultimate: Khonshu’s fist speed reduced; corrected the damage logic, removed 75 damage for being in the middle of the spell field.
  • Each fist now does 150 (up from 75) damage.

Black Widow:

Black Widow’s Ultimate has also received a nerf, but her rifle ammo capacity has been increased.

  • Ultimate: Slow down effect reduced from 80% to 55%.
  • Rifle Capacity increased from 8 to 15.

Magik:

Magik’s Ultimate cost has been reduced, with some tweaks to her abilities.

  • Ultimate cost reduced from 3700 to 3400.
  • Eldritch Whirl (Normal): Damage decreased from 45 to 40.

Hela’s Soul Drainer ability seems to be getting a slight nerf.

  • Soul Drainer damage falloff at 30m from 70% to 80% (unconfirmed)

Adam Warlock:

Adam Warlock’s Soul Bond ability received a buff. His Primary fire damage has also been increased.

  • Soul Bond: Healing increased from 10/s to 15/s
  • Primary Fire damage increased from 55 to 60, with 60% damage fall off at 40m. (up from 50% dmg falloff)

Cloak & Dagger:

Cloak & Dagger‘s Ultimate cost has been increased, with a bunch of tweaks and update to the ability set.

  • Ultimate cost increased from 3400 to 4000.
  • “Dash Lanes/Fog that Heals” duration reduced from 10s to 8s.
  • Pause between dashes reduced from 1s to 0.67s.
  • The healing effect of the Dash Lanes no longer stacks, only 1 lane works when overlayed on each other.
  • Terror Cape: Vulnerability on enemies increased from 20% to 28%

Luna Snow:

Luna Snow’s Ultimate ability cost has been increased.

  • Ultimate cost increased from 4000 to 4500.

Loki:

Loki’s Ultimate ability cost has also been increased. He also received a buff for his ammo.

  • Ultimate Cost increased from 3400 to 4000; Ammo increased from 10 to 12.

Mantis:

Mantis’ bonus HP has been reduced.

  • Ultimate bonus HP reduced from 100 to 75.

Invisible Woman:

Invisible Woman’s Ultimate ability cost has been increased.

  • Ultimate cost increased from 4000 to 4300.

Team-Up Ability Changes:

  • Gamma: Unibeam damage nerfed. Hulk HP gained from being an anchor reduced from 150 to 100.
  • Psionic Disc (Rewind): Teleport time reduced from 5s to 3s. Bonus HP conversion increased from 0.5 to 0.8.
  • Full Moon: New 25/s healing effect. (unconfirmed)
  • Symbiote Bond:
    • Skill time reduced from 4s to 1s.
    • 50% damage reduction is removed.
    • Complete invincibility added.
  • Frozen Chi:
    • Healing increased from 50 to 75.
    • Enemy slow effect increased from 20% to 30%.

While all of these balance changes will shake up how matches play out, the biggest additions in this update are The Thing and Human Torch. These two Fantastic Four members will bring their own unique playstyles.
