A well-known Switch dataminer and leaker, ZachyCatGames, recently shared some juicy details on the Famiboards forums. According to their post, the Switch 2’s portable GPU clock speeds could surpass 560 MHz, which would make it notably more powerful than Valve’s Steam Deck.
To put it in perspective, the Steam Deck’s GPU clocks in at 1.6 GHz with around 1.6 TFLOPS of performance, while the Switch 2 is rumored to hit approximately 1.72 TFLOPS in portable mode if its GPU reaches 561 MHz.
ZachyCatGames also touched on Switch 2’s GPU performance in docked mode, suggesting a clock speed of approximately 1007.3 MHz, which is around 3.09 TFLOPS.
Additionally, they commented on CPU performance, responding to speculation of a 1.8 GHz clock speed with a dismissive “it is indeed hopium,” implying that such expectations might be unrealistic. While the CPU remains a mystery, the GPU specs alone could elevate the Switch 2’s handheld and docked gaming experience.
Comparatively, the PS4 base model’s GPU delivers 1.84 TFLOPS, and the PS4 Pro boasts 4.20 TFLOPS. While the Switch 2’s rumored performance doesn’t quite reach the base PS4 level, it would be a significant step up from the original Switch and Steam Deck in portable gaming scenarios.
It’s worth noting that earlier reports suggested the Switch 2 could rival the PS4 Pro in power, but this was quickly debunked by industry insiders. This serves as a reminder to take all leaks with a pinch of salt until Nintendo confirms anything.
