PlayStation’s Project Gummy Bears may have surfaced as Project 5414, a “tournament-quality team game” mixing “super fast-paced” arena fighter action with MOBA teamplay

Project Gummy Bears may have appeared as Project 5414, an arena fighter and MOBA hybrid from PlayStation’s teamLFG, with new playtests planned.

The Game Post first reported in August 2023 that Bungie was developing a competitive PvP project codenamed Gummy Bears, with sources describing cute, colorful characters and major MOBA elements. Our January 2025 report added some new details: percentage-based damage, increasing knockback, ring-out eliminations, multiple modes, and Attack, Defense, and Support roles, closer to Super Smash Bros. than a standard lane battler.

After Bungie’s 2024 restructuring, the project moved to a new PlayStation studio with around 40 former Bungie developers continuing work. Sony introduced that studio as teamLFG in May 2025 and confirmed its first game draws from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games. TeamLFG also said players would join development through early access playtests, with the game supported as a live service after launch.

A new playtest trail now gives that old reporting a very specific match.

Project Gummy Bears May Have Surfaced as Project 5414

A FirstLook page for Project 5414 describes a competitive PvP game combining the “super fast-paced action of arena fighters” with MOBA teamplay. It calls the project a “tournament-quality team game” built to support serious mastery with competitive friends while remaining approachable for wider friend groups. Recruitment is currently closed, but the page says more playtest opportunities are coming and lets players join a waitlist.

Here’s the full Firstlook blurb:

“Project 5414 – Playtest Opportunities Coming Soon

“Competitive PVP players! Do you love it when gameplay elements combine in surprising ways that change the fate of a fight? Are you looking for a tournament-quality team game that has enough depth and mastery to play with your sweatiest friends, but enough approachability to play with all of your friends?

“Project 5414 is a game in development that mashes the super fast-paced action of arena fighters with the teamplay of MOBAs. We’re working hard to build it into the next great multiplayer game, and we want you to be part of that journey.

“We aren’t actively recruiting for playtests at this time, but more opportunities are on the way. Sign up below to stay in the loop and be among the first to know when new spots open up!”

In a post-signup message reviewed by The Game Post, the Project 5414 team says it’ll contact waitlisted players first when its next testing wave opens. An earlier recruitment post on the Smash Bros. subreddit called Project 5414 a private pre-alpha and required a PC, gamepad, Steam, and Discord, with sessions scheduled from 6 PM Pacific onward. That suggests at least one targeted test was being organized before the public page switched to its current “coming soon” status.

“Do you like team-based action PVP? Project 5414 is a game that mashes up platform fighters with MOBA-like objectives. You can apply to join our pre-alpha waitlist below.

“To participate, you’ll need a gaming PC, a controller, stable internet, and a Discord and Steam account. Playtests are on Thursday evenings. If you’re approved from the waitlist, we’ll send you an email with further instructions!”

The PlayStation connection comes from a ResetEra user who said they received the invitation from PlayStation Research. Their quoted signup copy described the same arena-fighter and MOBA mix.

Another thing we spotted was the wording on the Project 5414 page that also lines up with several active teamLFG job listings. The closest match comes from a Senior Gameplay Designer role, which says the studio wants someone who understands how “combinatoric game design” can create surprise for players.

Project 5414’s page asks whether players enjoy gameplay elements combining in surprising ways that can change the outcome of a fight. That’s a specific design philosophy to share, rather than the usual overlap you’d expect from two competitive multiplayer games.

That’s a suspiciously exact pile of matching nouns, even by codename standards. Our 2025 report described Gummy Bears as a MOBA-platform fighter hybrid, while teamLFG later confirmed the same broad influences and promised early tests. Our August 2025 report also found the studio hiring someone to build a pre-alpha community through Discord, including moderation systems and player onboarding.

None of this definitively confirms that Project 5414 is Project Gummy Bear from teamLFG. So, for now, take everything with a grain of salt.
