The Final Shape is considered one of the most important expansions in Destiny’s history, promising to deliver a compelling conclusion to long-running story arcs. Instead, many players found themselves frustrated and disappointed as server instability marred their gameplay. Reports flooded in on various forums and social media platforms, highlighting the extent of the issues.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape Launch Hit By Server Errors

One of the most discussed threads in the DestinyTheGame subreddit emphasized the impact of these server errors on the storytelling experience. “This is the biggest narrative moment in Destiny history, and most people are erroring out of every other cutscene.,” wrote one user. “I was wondering why the pacing felt so weird until I realized I had missed 2 entire cutscenes and had to look them up.”

Another Reddit user replied, “This has been a disastrous launch for them. I’m curious why this one is so much worse compared to other launches, since I never had story moments completely skipped for me in any other expansion launch.”

SaltagreppoD2, a popular Destiny 2 streamer, also shared his opinion on constant server errors on the launch day, saying “I was very hyped for TFS, especially after Into the Light being very good, but so far this is pretty sad. Servers completely dead 3 days away from the Day 1 Raid, and the Surge changes for Raids and Dungeons really make it hard to keep enthusiasm up. Hopefully it improves!”

Players reported being booted to orbit or experiencing errors in the middle of cutscenes, which pulled them out of missions. “Missed a MAJOR cutscene that was actually so damn good because of an error. Had to find a stream to even go back and watch it. What a disaster, man,” wrote another Reddit user.

Reddit user CrotasScrota shared the same concerns, “I got error coded immediately after the 4th mission and got booted to orbit. Someone mentioned there are 2 cutscenes afterward that I missed.”

Following the influx in server errors, Bungie issued an update via its Bungie Help account on X (formerly Twitter), saying “Destiny 2 background maintenance is ongoing as we continue to investigate CABBAGE, CURRANT, and WEASEL error codes.”

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is live on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
