FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, is reportedly “deep” into development on a secret new multiplatform project codenamed “FMC.”

FromSoftware, the Japanese studio best known for titles like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, has become one of the most respected names in the industry when it comes to tough, atmospheric action games.

Its most recent release, Elden Ring: Nightreign, expanded the world of Elden Ring with roguelike elements and a fresh co-op survival gameplay, proving the developer is still pushing boundaries even after massive success.

Right now, the studio is busy supporting Nightreign while also working on The Duskbloods, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive action game. But if a new report is to be believed, there’s something else cooking behind the scenes, and it might be closer to release than expected.

FromSoftware’s Secret Project “FMC” May Be Closer Than We Think

The news comes from leaker and industry tracker Kurakasis, who reports that FromSoftware is in the advanced stages of development on an unannounced multiplatform game codenamed FMC. According to the report, this mystery project could be released as soon as next year (2026), that’s assuming it doesn’t get hit with any delays.

“Considering the nature of the source these details come from, everything points to the project being at such an advanced stage that, unless it hits a delay, we should be able to play it no later than next year,” the report reads.

Kurakasis also broke down how FromSoftware uses short internal codes during development. For example, Elden Ring was internally known as “GR” (for Great Rune), while Bloodborne used “SPRJ.” The codename FMC hasn’t been linked to any known project, which rules out The Duskbloods (since it’s Switch-exclusive and not multiplatform). That alone suggests this is something entirely new, or possibly a remake.

You can check out the list of previous FromSoftware titles and their codenames below, as reported by Kurakasis.

  • Dark Souls II: FRPG2
  • Dark Souls III: FDP
  • Dark Souls Remastered: FHD
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice: NTCG and NTC
  • Bloodborne: SPRJ
  • Elden Ring: GR
  • Armored Core VI: FNR
  • Elden Ring: Nightreign: CL

Leaker Nick “Shpeshal Nick” Baker of XboxEra previously claimed a Dark Souls III Remastered was in development, which lines up neatly with this theory. On the other hand, there’s also a chance that FMC is a completely new title (or possibly a new IP?) with no ties to FromSoftware’s past work.

Of course, nothing is official yet, and as always with early reports like this, it’s best to take everything with a grain of salt.

On a related note, FromSoftware has been making some bigger moves lately. Sony now owns a minority stake in the studio, which could lead to more exclusive partnerships in the future. And with the studio expanding across multiple internal teams, it’s clear it is planning for a packed few years ahead.
