Destiny fans are pushing Sony for Destiny 3 as a fast-growing petition crosses 200,000 signatures ahead of Destiny 2’s final live service update on June 9.

Bungie recently confirmed that Destiny 2: Monument of Triumph, launching on June 9, will be the game’s final live-service content update, with Destiny 2 staying playable afterward. For many players, that still feels like the end of an era, especially after nearly a decade of updates, raids, expansions, memories, and frustration.

The news landed even harder after reports claimed that Destiny 3 is not currently in active development, and that Bungie does not have a new Destiny-related project greenlit for the Destiny 2 team right now. According to those reports, Bungie developers are still pitching possible new projects, including ideas tied to Destiny, but nothing has been approved yet.

Following that announcement, fans started a Change.org petition asking Sony to develop Destiny 3, and it has quickly taken off. In just three days, the petition has crossed 200,000 signatures, and it is now being shared across major social platforms, including X, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, and more.

“Develop Destiny 3” Petition Crosses 200,000 Signatures As Fans Push Sony To Greenlight the Sequel

A petition alone does not mean Sony will suddenly greenlight Destiny 3. That is the hard truth. Big companies usually make these calls based on money, staffing, long-term forecasts, and risk. A Change.org campaign can show demand, but it is not the same thing as a business plan, a budget, or a full production roadmap.

Still, that does not mean it is useless. A fast-growing petition sends a public message: players are not done with Destiny. Even if it does not change Sony’s mind overnight, it gives fans a visible way to push back against the idea that interest in the franchise has faded.

Another sign of how far the campaign has spread came from Destiny 2 voice actor Brandon O’Neill, best known as the voice of Crow/Uldren Sov. In a recent Cameo message, O’Neill called on Guardians to gather at the Tower on June 9 for one final Destiny 2 update, before adding his support for the growing #WeWantDestiny3 push.

While the video itself was a paid fan request, O’Neill later confirmed to The Game Post that his support for the idea of Destiny 3 was genuine, saying he “certainly” supports the thought of a sequel and would be “very happy to be involved.”

Across Reddit, fans are also organizing around June 9, asking players to log in for one last big show of support. One r/DestinyTheGame post told players to “Invite your friends, your old clanmates, that random Xbox friend you haven’t talked to in years” and called it a “giant farewell Destiny 2 party.”

The post added, “This doesn’t need to be the end. And hell, if it is Guardians, let’s go down with a blast, not a damn whimper.”

On r/destiny2, one player summed up the mood pretty well: “Will it accomplish anything? Probably not. Will I be there regardless? Yeah, it’ll probably be my last chance to find another 7 people in the Gambit queue. Drifter’s gotta have some motes for the road.”

Another replied, “We will show the devs that we love their worked to the very end, even if their higher-ups are the worst,” while another said, “even if there is a sliver of a chance that we could potentially do something to save our franchise, we have to try.”

There is pushback, too. Some players think petitions and login rallies will not move Sony at all. Others argue that if the demand was strong enough, Bungie and Sony would already know. This all comes as reports also claim Bungie is planning significant layoffs after the June 9 update, adding even more concern around the studio’s future.

As for the final Destiny 2 update itself, Bungie has already announced what it will be adding to the game, including Pantheon 2.0, the long-awaited Sparrow Racing League mode, bringing back the Director as a main hub for activities, and some balance changes.
