No, Warlocks Are Not The Winner Of Destiny 2 Guardian Games 2023

That in-game message was sent out "erroneously."

Guardian Games 2023 is currently live in Destiny 2 Season of Defiance. We are only four days into the event and it looks like Bungie has already picked the winner for this year’s Guardian Games.

Every Friday, Destiny 2 pushes an in-game notification that features details on what’s coming in the following week, with weekly Raid, Dungeon, the Crucible, and Nightfall rotators. Just like every week, this “Next Week in Destiny” pop-up was pushed for all players…but that wasn’t all.

Along with the scheduled notification, there were two other notices for Guardian Games. The first pop-up was for Titans, congratulating them for winning the first week’s ceremony. The text states, “Titans prevail! Titans triumphed in this week’s ceremony. Go to the podium in the Tower to receive your rewards.”

Surprisingly, the second notice was for the Guardian Games 2023 winner (not the weekly winner). And as per the in-game notice, Warlocks have won the Guardian Games 2023. Here’s what the text says:

“Warlocks Win! Warlocks earned the most Medallions and won this year’s Games! Visit the Tower for the Closing Ceremony.”

But, let’s not jump to conclusions here. Shortly after this message was pushed in-game, Bungie posted a tweet on its Bungie Help Twitter account stating that this in-game message “was sent out erroneously.”

“We’re aware that an in-game message announcing the winner of Guardian Games was sent out erroneously,” Bungie said in a tweet. “Guardian Games still have two weeks left and the winning class has not been officially announced yet.”

Yes, this was indeed an error. If I had to guess the reason behind it, Bungie created this “in-game message” for all classes (Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters) for the Closing Ceremony and somehow the Warlock’s announcement got slipped through this weekend.

In summary, Bungie made a mistake and the outcome of Guardian Games 2023 remains uncertain. However, judging by this week’s progress, I’d say the Titans will be the winners this year.
