Microsoft just raised Xbox console and accessory prices, and now there’s talk that Xbox Game Pass could be next in line for a price bump.
Microsoft raised eyebrows today by officially increasing the prices of nearly every piece of Xbox hardware, including consoles, controllers, and headsets. The new pricing is already live as of May 1, and it’s not just a small bump.
We’re talking over $100 increase on some models like the 2TB Galaxy Xbox Series X. But as players adjust to the hardware price hike, there’s growing chatter that Xbox Game Pass could also see another price increase in the near future.
Is Xbox Game Pass about to get even more expensive?
The rumor started gaining traction after a post on the gaming forum ResetEra, where one user pointed out that Microsoft didn’t raise Game Pass prices yet. In response, a well-known industry insider, Shinobi602, gave a cheeky one-word reply: “lol.” While it’s not a confirmation, it definitely suggests that more changes might be on the way.
This comes not long after Microsoft already announced a major overhaul of Xbox Game Pass, which includes a new Standard tier for $14.99/month. That new plan won’t include day-one games or cloud streaming. Other tiers like Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass have also gotten more expensive, going up to $19.99 and $11.99 per month, respectively.
So, if this insider hint is anything to go by, the September price hike might not be the last, and it could even come sooner than expected. Of course, none of this is official, so it’s best to treat it like any rumor and wait to see what Microsoft actually announces.
In the meantime, the hardware side isn’t looking any cheaper. The Xbox Series X now costs $599.99, while the cheaper Series S models also saw price increases. In a statement to IGN, Microsoft said the price changes were due to “market conditions and the rising cost of development.”
