The gaming community is not just limited to younger generations, with many older adults enjoying playing games with their friends and family as well. In a heartwarming story, Destiny 2 players helped a 69-year-old woman play the game with her son, showcasing the power of gaming to bring people together.
It all started when a Reddit user shragae posted a thread titled “Old lady says hello” in the Destiny 2 subreddit, asking for suggestions on how to learn the mechanics of the game. “In 2019 I was playing Destiny quite a bit,” shragae wrote in her Reddit post.
“My father passed away and I just lost all interest in the game. Recently my son convinced me to buy Shadowkeep and see if I could get interested in the game again. I figured for a $9 investment it was worth a try. Well here I am at 69 (female) and I am again addicted to the game.”
“There’s so much I don’t understand about this game, particularly what weapons to keep and how to select my gear let alone enhance everything. But I’m having a heck of a good time and I figure watching YouTube and reading things online I can get information on how to correctly track my guardian.”
The Destiny 2 community responded to her post with an outpouring of support and encouragement. Many players offered to team up with her and help her learn the game. Some even went the extra mile by sharing returning player guides, and tips.
In a new update post, shragae said that she has completed The Witch Queen campaign with her son. And even though she did, she’s been struggling with the game. “If we’re in a Fireteam of three or six I am always last,” shragae wrote. “On one of our efforts my son had over 300 kills and I think I had 20.”
“I really do love this game and I’m enjoying it but I feel a little guilty that quite a few of you have offered to befriend me when I pretty much stink!”
One Reddit user replied; “Remember to do the things that you have fun with! Sometimes it’s ‘fiero’ – that feeling of triumph overcoming challenge. Sometimes it’s just exploring and enjoying the music and the scenery. Sometimes it’s just slaying everything that moves!”
Although the Destiny 2 community is known for its negative and critical attitudes, particularly on Twitter, this heartwarming story really demonstrates the community’s compassionate and positive side. Not to mention, tons of other older players showing up in the thread offering help, and tips, especially the Golden Oldies clan.
In conclusion, the Destiny 2 community has set a shining example of inclusivity and kindness by coming together to help a 69-year-old woman play the game with her son. It’s a wholesome affair that reminds us of the power of gaming to create connections and bring people together.
