Crossfire is the second challenge in the Root of Nightmares raid that takes place in the Scission encounter. The normal encounter requires players to connect both the Light and Darkness nodes in any order, meaning you can assign a single player to do the Light’s nodes, same with the Darkness side.
However, while the Crossfire challenge can be done with a single player on each side doing the nodes, there’s a bit of a twist when jumping on the opposite side, as well as the added difficulty in the Master mode.
Crossfire Challenge In Destiny 2 Root of Nightmares
To put it in simple terms, you cannot shoot your diamond crux to activate the jump pad. Instead, a player on the other side has to shoot your crux to activate your jump pad and vice versa. (you have to shoot their crux and activate their jump pad)
Challenge | Description | Encounter |
---|---|---|
Crossfire | You cannot shoot your Diamond Crux to activate the jump pad | Scission |
Another important note here is that using any kind of skating to jump across the gap will also fail this challenge, as it actually counts whether or not the crus is triggered for the jump pads. This means, using Warlock’s Well of Radiance skate, Hunter’s Shatter skate, or even an enhanced Eager’s Edge sword will, unfortunately, fail the challenge.
How to Complete Crossfire Challenge in Root of Nightmares
As you may have already guessed, not much is changing in this challenge compared to the normal encounter. There are three possible ways to do this challenge.
1. 2 Runners Strat
The first one is to have the usual two runners who take the buff and connect for each side. However, this time, each runner will only shoot the opposite crux, instead of shooting their own. This also means that both runners will have to work together and coordinate their timings on when to activate the jump pads.
2. 2 Runners 2 Standby Strat
The second possible way to complete the Crossfire challenge in the Root of Nightmares is to have the two runners do their job, but also have two other players (one on each side) on standby who will shoot the opposite crux for each side. This means the runners will no longer have to communicate with each other and can complete their side as quickly as possible.
3. 2 Runners 4 Standby Strat
The third way is to have all three members of your to on the lookout for the callout when the runners require the jump pads to be activated. However, this is a bit risky as there are constant enemies spawning on each side. So, this has a much higher chance of getting this mixed up and eventually getting killed.
Keep in mind that while the second and third are still viable options to complete the Crossfire challenge, it’s best to just stick to the first strategy where runners do the job themselves, especially on the Master difficulty, which will also have Champions on each side.
Crossfire Challenge Adept Reward
For completing the Crossfire challenge on the Master difficulty Root of Nightmares, players will unlock the Solar Acasia’s Dejection Adept Trace Rifle.
