Bungie’s crackdown on Destiny 2 cheats continues as another cheat provider, Opium Cheats, shuts down after Bungie issues a cease and desist.
Bungie’s relentless effort to protect Destiny 2’s integrity has claimed yet another victory. Over the past few years, the ex-Halo developer has aggressively pursued legal action against cheat sellers, winning multiple lawsuits and setting precedents in the process.
From multimillion-dollar judgments against AimJunkies, Elite Boss Tech, and Lavicheats, Bungie has demonstrated its commitment to keeping the game fair for players. Now, its ongoing crackdown has resulted in the closure of Opium Cheats, a provider that offered a range of Destiny 2 hacks.
Destiny 2 Cheat Seller “Opium Cheats” Shuts Down
The latest development in Bungie’s fight against cheating comes from Opium Cheats. Known for its cheat tools that allowed players to exploit Destiny 2 in both PvP and PvE, Opium Cheats recently announced its shutdown. The move follows a cease-and-desist (C&D) order from Bungie.
In a Discord announcement (thanks, MuItimach), Opium Cheats’ stated:
“Due to legal issues with Bungie and them not leaving us alone, which clearly shows they want us gone, we’re shutting down. We will let everyone’s subs run out. To clarify everything, it’s a C&D and not a lawsuit. We never got sued… we are shutting down and listening to what they want.”
The announcement also mentioned that Bungie’s legal action would result in a substantial financial burden, reportedly amounting to $6 million, which likely played a role in the decision to cease operations.
Opium Cheats offered a range of services, with memberships costing between $7.57 and $345.36, according to their website. Their cheat tools included features like aimbots, God Mode, teleportation, fly hacks, weapon customization, ability to hide your gamertag gameplay all, speed hacks, and instand respawn, all designed to provide players with an unfair edge in Destiny 2.
While Opium Cheats avoided a lawsuit this time, Bungie’s legal victories against other providers show just how determined the company is. Lavicheats, for instance, faced a $6.7 million judgment, while AimJunkies and Elite Boss Tech were ordered to pay even larger sums.
