Bungie has revealed new Destiny 2 Sparrow Racing League details, including SRL rewards, weapons, armor bonuses, Sparrows, horns, Skimmers, and a new map.

Destiny 2 is getting ready for its final live service update, Monument of Triumph, and Bungie is clearly trying to make it feel like a proper sendoff. The update arrives on June 9 and brings back several parts of Destiny’s past, including one mode players have asked about for years: Sparrow Racing League.

SRL’s return was confirmed last week, and Bungie has now shared a full breakdown of how the mode works in Destiny 2, what rewards players can get, which maps are coming back, and how Skimmers will fit into the racing setup.

Bungie reportedly allowed Destiny 2 devs to keep working on Shattered Cycle and future content even after leadership had already decided to end live service support earlier this year

Destiny 2 Sparrow Racing League Returns With New Rewards, Maps, Skimmers, and Racing Changes

In a new Dev Insights article, Bungie explained that Sparrow Racing League is not returning exactly as it was in Destiny 1. The basic idea is still the same. Players race across tracks, hit gates, take shortcuts, and try to finish ahead of the pack. But this version has been updated with new features, new rewards, and some extra tuning.

Here’s how SRL works in Destiny 2

SRL races will be three laps long, with six players in each race. Before a race starts, players can choose between using a Sparrow or a Skimmer. Bungie says it has done work behind the scenes to make sure both vehicle types feel fair. Skimmers will not have rail grinds or manual jumping in SRL, while Sparrows will not use destabilizers for rolls or flips.

There are also new race mechanics. Rocket Boost gives players a faster start if they time their acceleration properly right before the race begins. Trick Boosts also reward players for landing tricks during a race. On PC, Sparrow and Skimmer tricks can be remapped in the same way emotes can.

Bungie also says SRL now supports closer finishes better. If two racers cross the line at nearly the same time, the game can properly read it as a tie. That should help avoid frustrating finish-line moments where the result does not match what players saw on screen.

Destiny 2 Sparrow Racing League Maps

For maps, all four original SRL tracks are returning in Destiny 2. That includes Campus Martius (Mars), Infinite Descent (Venus), Haakon Precipice (Earth), and Shining Sands (Mercury). Bungie is also adding a brand-new map called Quantum Circuit, which is set in the realm of the Nine. The track will feature Taken and other (unknown) enemies.

The full list of SRL maps in Destiny 2 can be found below:

Shortcuts are also getting some attention. Bungie says speed boost pads have been added to certain shortcut paths across all maps. The goal is to make harder routes feel more rewarding, even if players miss a few gates while taking them. Gate sizes, vehicle speeds, and rubberbanding have also been tuned to keep races close without removing the value of clean racing lines and smart boosts.

Destiny 2 Sparrow Racing League Rewards

The rewards are a major part of SRL’s return. Bungie says Sparrow Racing League will have its own weapons and armor rewards, with perks built around speed and movement, including examples like Eager Edge, Desperado, and Perpetual Motion.

Bungie is still keeping the full weapon names and perk pools hidden for now, but the teaser images show a full SRL-themed weapon set, along with new vehicles.

The SRL rewards confirmed so far include:

  • New Sparrow
  • New Skimmer
  • Sword
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Fusion Rifle
  • Auto Rifle
  • Submachine Gun
  • Pulse Rifle
  • SRL armor ornaments
  • Returning Destiny 1 racing Sparrows
  • Returning Destiny 1 SRL shaders
  • Returning Sparrow Horns from Destiny 1, which also work with Skimmers
  • New and returning SRL emblems

Bungie also revealed the new SRL origin trait, Featherweight, which gives increased movement speed after final blows while the weapon is equipped.

  • Featherweight (Origin): Final blows with weapons that have the Featherweight Origin Trait grant increased movement speed while equipped.

SRL armor will also have set bonuses. The two-piece bonus, Revving Up, builds charge through fast movement and “gradually increases your health regeneration speed. Once you are Fully Revved, sprinting grants Speed Booster.” The four-piece bonus, Dielectric Drift, makes sliding while Speed Booster is active jolt enemies in front of the player.

  • Revving Up (2-piece): Fast movement builds up a charge that gradually increases your health regeneration speed. Once you are Fully Revved, sprinting grants Speed Booster.
  • Dielectric Drift (4-piece): Sliding while Speed Booster is active jolts combatants in front of you.
