Bungie shares its “forever Destiny” plans, including Destiny 2 Celebration, Destiny Legacy, and a mystery project, with details coming in February 2027.
Bungie has spent the past few months trying to figure out what comes next for Destiny. Following the announcement that Destiny 2’s regular live-service development would end with Monument of Triumph in June 2026, the studio reversed course in September, committing to restoring vaulted content and developing new stories and games within the franchise.
In its September announcement, Bungie described Destiny as foundational to its future. However, the studio offered few specifics about what that future would involve beyond the restoration project. Questions about a potential successor to Destiny 2 have remained unanswered.

Bungie has now provided a clearer picture of its long-term intentions, including two named initiatives and a mysterious third project.
Bungie’s “Forever Destiny” Vision Includes Three Major Initiatives
Today, Bungie released a new blog post going over the future of Destiny and Destiny 2’s unvaulting project. The studio’s Head of Product, Josh Deane, outlined a phased approach to rebuilding the franchise, describing the studio’s plans for a new “forever Destiny” experience.
Deane explained that Bungie has aligned its new vision for Destiny alongside the recently approved unvaulting initiative: “We are marching forward with a phased plan for Destiny’s future that celebrates our legacy and propels us into a new, far green country,” Deane said.
The first initiative, called Destiny 2 Celebration, is intended to bring new updates to the existing game beyond Monument of Triumph. Bungie hasn’t explained what these updates will contain, although players can expect more information through a development progress report in February 2027.

The second initiative, Destiny Legacy, aims to make the franchise’s broader history accessible on the platforms where people currently play. Bungie hasn’t clarified what this will involve or whether it could include content from the original Destiny. Another progress report is planned for February.
The third initiative remains completely redacted, with Bungie providing only a mysterious launch message: “We’re back.” No title, release window, or additional details were shared, and the studio hasn’t identified the project as Destiny 3.
Discussing the development strategy behind these initiatives, Deane explained that Bungie needs smaller teams to explore new ideas before committing larger resources. Established projects such as Destiny 2 restoration can move forward with more clearly defined production requirements.

“Knowing both of the above states are true in our current world is the puzzle we’re working through for how we get to our end game, a new, forever Destiny, while rebuilding a relationship with a vibrant community along the way.”
The studio’s ambitions extend beyond simply restoring older Destiny 2 content. However, Deane stressed that its future projects remain in early incubation and validation, with no guarantees that every idea will progress into full production.
He also warned players against expecting a surprise announcement at The Game Awards 2026.
“So, knowing we are early in incubating our future and actively working on projects to bridge us to that new home, don’t expect us to make a Destiny announcement at the TGA’s this year, or to randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away. We get there when we get there.”

For now, Bungie intends to communicate its progress through development milestones rather than traditional release roadmaps. The next major Destiny update is targeted for February 2027, with further information about the Celebration and Legacy initiatives expected.
